By: T. Lula Jaurey tqlulajaurey@gmail.com IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-31 October  2018:  An ERU officer identified as Gabriel Rivercess along with two others are being arrested in conncetion with an arm robbery incident at the Afriland Bank breach in Gbarpolu County. According to investigators of the Liberian National Police, the suspects on October 24th, 2018,  were arrested, investigated and charged with multiple crimes ranging from ‘criminal conspiracy, burglary, arm robbery, theft of property, aggravated assault and terroristic threat’. According to police preliminary probe, it was established that the suspects robbed the bank and took away six million, one hundred and ten thousand seven hundred and  ten Liberian dollars (LRD6,110,710.00) four thousand five hundred, forty united states dollars (USD4,540.00) a mobile money SIM card containing thirty eight thousand Liberian dollars. The three suspects; ERU Officer, Gabriel A. Rivercess,  Daniel Risk alias Monk, and Jeremiah Merchant, damaged the inside locks on the iron gate and the vault of the bank and brutalized an assigned security officer of the Bank and made away with the money in vault. During the police investigation, it was established that those suspects were seen in Bopolu City on October 23 at about 7:00pm around a video club. Furthermore, while escaping, they got to ‘Suah Town DC Clark Check Point’, Major Kaidiaa of LIS who tried to stop them was placed under gun point, threatened to kill him if he refused to drop the gate and they forcibly opened the gate and passed. In view of the testimonies, the act of the suspects is in violation of chapter 10, 15 and 14, section 10.4, 15.20 and section 15.30, section 15.51 section 14.20 and section 14.24 of the revised penal code of Liberia. With this renewed involvement of an Officer of the Emergency Response Unit of the Liberian National Police, following a protracted training by the United Nations Police force has heighten public speculations in recent time over the involvement of police officers various  crimes across the city. Investigation continues… Meanwhile, a team of police officers are in search of thirty-five (35) inmates who broke jail on October 18, 2018 at the Robert sports Central Prison, Grand Cape Mount County.The police received information from residents of Madinah about some people hiding themselves in an unfinished building with cutlasses and single barrel gun with the escapees. “Our officers came under attack by the escapees who attempted killing one of them in the wake of  stopping the threat as one of the escaped inmates sustained serious injury and was quickly rushed to the hospital in Robertsport where he was later pronounced dead by doctors. At the same time eight of the thirty-five (35) inmates that broke jail have been re-arrested and sent to prison.  Additionally, on October 27, 2018, officers of the Police Support Unit (PSU) were seriously attacked by over five hundred (500) evicted residents led by Commissioner Jerry Quaqua of Johnsonville. According to the police spokesman H. Moses Carter stated that, the officers went to Bassa Town, Chicken Soup Factory, Gardnersville to serve as backup for the sheriffs of Criminal Court “B” who had gone to carry out the execution of a writ of possession. However, during the on the officers, seven were severely wounded with some of them stabbed and brutally wounded in their legs, foreheads and one of the court sheriffs was stripped naked and beaten. Moreover, the attackers made away with the officers assigned weapons AK-47 riffle, one muscle blast gas launcher and a black riot shield including cell phones. Furthermore, police had condemned the act and will do everything humanly possible to make sure that  the perpetrators of such assault will face the full weight of the law. He stated further that, the Inspector General of the LNP Patrick Sudue appreciates the high level of professionalism demonstrated by these affected officers which portrays a new dispensation for professional policing. At the same time, the LNP has confirmed a fatal accident which occurred on Friday, October 26, along the Gbolelah Town, Kakata-Monrovia Highway involving a Maroon Volvo Truck without license plate number. In police preliminary investigation established, fifteen occupants were on board while heading from Margibi County to Monrovia when suddenly one of the tires punched off that led to the driver  losing control of the steering and the vehicle subsequently landed  in the valley. As the result of the accident, nine persons were injured and immediately rushed to the C.H. Rennie Hospital in Margibi County, where six persons were pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the driver was arrested and charged with a traffic violation of 0.5 (operating vehicle in unsafe condition) 10.4 (reckless driving), 4.4 (proof of financial security required for registration of vehicles) and 3.1 (registration required) of the vehicle and traffic law of Liberia has been forwarded to the  court for prosecution.

By: T. Lula Jaurey tqlulajaurey@gmail.com IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-31 October  2018:  A  Liberian lawyer Moiffie Kanneh has requested S.N. Brussels Airline to pay US$13K for his missing luggage’s as remuneration for  damage.   Mr. Kanneh claimed that on July 18 2015, he travels to the United States of America and came  back to Liberia with S.N. Brussel during which period his luggages got missed on the trip. After Weeks of intense arguments, the Jury of Civil Law Court “A,” at the Temple of Justice returned from their room of deliberation with a unanimous liability verdict against the management of S.N. Brussels Airline over a missing luggage belonging to one of its customers identified as Moiffie Kanneh, a Liberian lawyer. The jury verdict also demanded that the Airline should pay US$13. 000 damaged that include US$12. 000 for special damaged and US$1000 as general damaged. The damaged, according to the jury, were for the serious embarrassment and mental anguish their action caused Cllr. Kanneh of which he might be compensated.Initially, the Airline wrote Kanneh expressing their regret to hear that his luggage was not available when he arrived in the country, which they believed inconveniences Kanneh. “And we have duly received your inventory list and have now updated your file with the contents of the bag. We will check all possibilities given to us by the worldwide tracking system,” the communication noted. Further the letter said, ‘tracing period started today and will take three weeks. If we need more information in the meantime, we will contact you. If the bag is found, you will be contacted to arrange a delivery method.” Surprisingly, the airline wrote another communication to Kanneh, claiming that the air carrier was not liable for damaged including the missing items. “For obvious reasons, airline companies have to put limitations because  liabilities are concerned. Indeed, only clothes and toiletries needed for the travel are accepted as checked in luggages and our liability and our intervention is limited to these items.”The airline further argued that “Kanneh luggage contained many items which are not allowed to be transported and even though you have not sent us any invoices for the rest of the items.” Mr.Kanneh claimed that upon his arrival at the Roberts International Airport on flight number 1241, on the 4th of August, 2015, he was told that one of his luggages containing several items  could not be found on the basis of misplacement on board another flight. He also claimed that he was told by management to give them a few days to check with other connection and see how his luggage can be identified and returned to him. By then, Kanneh consented that because some of the contents in the missing luggage belongs to other people who went to his residence to receive their belongings, including some assorted  medical items  that were in the missing luggage sent by their relatives. “I was then advised to make a formal complaint to the management of S.N Brussels Customer Relations and then I wrote the management stating my complaint and was awaiting a response from the management said Mr. Kanneh. According to him, some of the items contained in the missing luggage belong to other people who have written him expressing their disgust and questioning his hard earned reputation, which he had built over the years. “I received several letters from owners of some of the missing items expressing dissatisfaction over the manner in which I was handling the issue of their items that were entrusted into my care,” Kanneh said.
