Weah on yesterday, October 1, 2018 inspected coastal defense project in the borough of New Kru Town, Bushrod island where residents recently suffered serious threats from sea erosion. Flanked by cabinet ministers, the President arrived in the New Kru Town borough as thousands of cheering crowd gathered to welcome him. “I am happy with the level of progress that I have seen here so far,” President Weah told ELBC radio in a live interview immediately following the tour. The coastal defense project in New Kru Town is part of the government’s effort to addressing several sea erosion threats faced by the Liberia’s coastal communities. A similar project is ongoing in the Fante Town community, Grand Bassa County, where erosion frequently threatened residents and flattened homes. Following the New Kru town visit, the President also broke grounds for the pavement of the Johnsonville-dry rice market road. “I am happy to be here today,” President weah told his audience. Adding, “As part of our commitment to alleviating our people from abject poverty and impalement of the pro-poor agenda, we have underscored road construction as an essential element of our development agenda. We want to Fix our roads because every development project that we intend to undertake center around good roads, and we must do this for the betterment of our people.” “This is one of the legacies that we would love leave as a government that cares for the people,” the President emphasized. He thaned the partners of the government for their continued support to his administration. “I want to thank our partners for their continued support, and we are always ready to work with them so that together we can help to rebuild this country,” President Weah asserted. Earlier, Liberia’s Finance, Development and Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah assured the Minister of Public Works that the government of Liberia has secured all funds for the implementation of feeder road projects in Montserrado County. “Today, we are here to affirm the government’s commitment of fixing our roads in this country. We want to assured the Liberian people and the Ministry of Public Works that the government of Liberia will fund these feeder road construction projects in Montserrado, and we want the Minister and his team to get ready to work because the money is there,” the Finance Minister assured. In line with the government’s pro-poor agenda, he said the Weah’s administration is doing everything to ensure that roads and electricity are provided to enable the country’s economic grow and be counted amongst peers in the sub-region. “We are here to celebrate the one who will be the greatest President that Liberia has ever produced,” Minister Tweah said as the crowd responded in kind. “Mr. President, today’s event is a commitment on your part to fixing the roads of this country,” Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan said at the ground breaking program in Johnsonville. Minister Nyenpan also named the Logan Town Broad Street, St. Michael Road, New Georgia Tusafield Road, Patient Shop, Police Academy, Duazon road, Fair Ground Road, Mendetama road, ELWA Road, Cooper Farm road, Rehab Road, Soul Clinic road, amongst others as some of the feeder roads that would be fix under the new project.
