CDC UNKNOWINGLY CAMPAIGNING FOR BOAKAI

Some actions by the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) have often made one wonders as to who is advising CDC’s leaders and supporters because of the bizarre way they sometimes carry themselves.

The Saturday, August 5, 2023, casket-toting drama by partisans and supporters of President George Weah and his CDC was a classic example of what we are alluding to here.

Isn’t it foolhardy and mind-boggling for partisans and supporters of the ruling Coalition to parade the principal streets of Monrovia with a symbolic casket of former vice president Joseph Boakai of the opposition Unity Party, President Weah’s main contender, in the October 10 presidential and legislative elections?

Frankly, it is. It is foolhardy and mind-boggling because the casket carriers and their ruling CDC, apparently out of ignorance, did not know that their action was a public relations stunt and political campaign for the former vice president and the opposition Unity Party’s presidential candidate.

Can you imagine that the ruling COALITION whose actions should be exemplary to other political parties and the citizenry is engaged in acts that are inimical to peace, unity, tranquility, and violence-free elections in the name of politics?

In our view, rather than making the Unity Party’s presidential candidate unpopular to the voting population, the ruling CDC is unknowingly campaigning for Joseph Boakai, and if not careful, such a campaign may payoff significantly on October 10.

Have CDCians forgotten so quickly that it similarly toted former President Sirleaf’s symbolic caskets through the streets, yet she defeated Weah twice at the polls?

The CDC’s action on the first day of the political campaign and its many social media posts ahead of the 2023 October polls have begun to convince us that the ruling COALITION fears Boakai and his former ruling Unity Party and so does not seem to be certain of its victory.

The CDC’s pro-Boakai campaign is even more profound on social media.

If a CDCian’s social media post is not talking about Boakai’s age, it is wishing for his death or saying that he has traveled abroad for heart surgery even if such a visit is family-related or an official invitation.

This is why we think that the CDC and its partisans are unknowingly and positively showcasing the UP’s standard bearer to the voting public than even their second term-seeking standard bearer, President George Weah. Believe it or not, your continued castigation and wishful thinking of the former Vice President may likely catapult him to victory on October 10. And if that happens, have yourself to blame, not the National Elections Commission and others after spending your precious time and energy unknowingly campaigning for Boakai and his Unity Party rather than telling the Liberian people what you have done in six years and what you will do again if given a second term of office.
