Bong Citizens Raise concern over VP Jewel Howard Taylor Security; Calls for Int’l security Investigation

INews-Monrovia: Reports reaching the Independent Probe Newspaper says several prominent citizens of Bong County are raising concern over perceive security threats against Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor.

The citizens at a consensus meeting held today in Gbarnga, Bong County, the through their spokesman Manepakei Doumoe, told IPNews that continued reports of security bridges against the personal security of Vice President Taylor is worrisome and must be corrected.

” We as leaders of Bong Country must take interest in the unfortunate development reported in the news concerning our sister and mother Jewel Howard Taylor and her security.”

“It is absolutely unacceptable that a high ranking State intelligence officer or anyone for that matter would pull a gun on the personal security of the sitting Vice President of the Republic of Liberia.” Doumoe.

Doumoe stated that inasmuch citizens of Bong County come from different political persuasion, yet, the acts of lawlessness against the Vice President is unacceptable.

Doumoe: Although we are all of different political persuasion, we are all children of Bong County and citizens of Liberia
And as such we must condemn acts of lawlessness regardless of who is involved.”

“As a citizen of this country and an influential national voice, I am calling on the government to go beyond MoJ investigation and invite our international partners to assist with beefing up the security of the vice President and probing what appears to be an assassination attempt.”

It may be recalled late yesterday, reports emerged that the Ministry of Justice is investigating an incident which took place last Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in front of the residence of Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, involving Mr. Gerald Smith, Deputy Director for Administration at the National Security Agency.

The report stated that VP Jewel Taylor was reportedly having a meeting when the incident took place.

Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the incident was sparked off by Mr. Smith’s refusal to adhere to the Vice President’s security details assigned in front of her house in the Sophie Ice Cream Community in Congo town.

Mr. Smith, reportedly threw insults at the security details of the VP, saying among other things: “Where the Vice President we got here? No Vice President here!”

Mr. Smith, according to eyewitnesses then proceeded to roll his vehicle, a black Acura MDX(license plate A511665) over the barricade guarding perimeter of the VP’s home.

Smith then pulled out his gun to shoot the VP’s guards before he was stopped, pulled out of the vehicle and wrestled to the ground during the process.

“On the 25th of June, we received a written complaint from the NSA.”

“We received a second complaint from the Vice President’s Chief of Staff, dated the 26th of June. Both complaints relate to the incident of 24th June, which occurred at the VP’s residence. We are in the process of instituting an investigation.” Justice Ministry officials told IPNews

During the process, sources explained that VP Taylor security managed to take his gun- 9 mm Smith and Wesson from him.

Mr. Smith was on one of several officials named in a report linking him to atrocities and crimes against humanity in the George Weah-led government by the International Justice Group(IJG), run by Cllr. Jerome Verdier, former head of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
