US,EU,ECOWAS & UN Save the day; calls for today’s CoP protest extension, But….

IPNEWS-MONROVIA: The United States Embassy near Monrovia in conjunction with the European Union,ECOWAS and the United Nations resident coordination in Liberia, have called on the Council of Patriots-CoP, to extend its planned ‘ Weah step down demonstration’, today January 5, 2020.

The international community in a joint statement issued last night, stated that it hails the democratic gains made by Liberians in holding democratic elections and the adherence to the democratic principles and will continue to partner with Liberia in the preservation of peace and tranquility.

The joint statement also called counter protesters to also extend its protest to January 12,2020, to ensure the safety and well-being of the Liberian people.

However, the the Council of Patriots-CoP, has excepted the last minute interventions of the international community and will definitely relax it’s planned protest schedule for today, December 30,2019.

The CoP lead campaigner Henry Costa at a major press conference held minutes ago also rejected the schedule date of January 5,2020, made by the international community, on grounds that it’s a worship day for members of council of Patriots-CoP, and Liberians who are members of the Christian faith.

He said the CoP will further reschedule it’s protest for January 6,2020, at capitol hill which is the official government seat of Liberia rather than the Samuel K. Doe, sports complex as suggested by the international community.

Costa reiterated the CoP commitment to ensuring the Weah government adhere to the democratic principles and practices in the provision of basic social services and ensuring major reforms in the government of Liberia.

The CoP maintained that the relaxation of today’s protest is in respect of the international community as partners and stated that government decision that it had no logistical support to ensuring the peaceful assembly of Liberians to protest as unacceptable.

The relaxation of today’s protest has now sent relieve to millions of Liberians who early yesterday began storing water and food supplies in anticipation of uncertainties which may followed today’s ‘ Weah step down demonstration’.
