Over December 30 protest, CoP defies gov’t Jan. 2020 ultimatum; summersaults Media bribery claims by Henry Costa

IPNews-Monrovia: the Council of Patriots-CoP, says it will go ahead tomorrow to stage it’s much talked about December 30, protest regardless of the government of Liberia pronouncement on a banned for all street protest until January 2020.

CoP spokesman Senator Abraham Darius Dillon told a news conference nearly an hour ago that tomorrow’s protest will not be about ‘George Weah step down demonstration’, but a peaceful and orderly protest.

Sen. Dillon expressed dissatisfaction over president Weah continued silence over reservation expressed by the CoP in its petition presentation recently to the office of the president and published to the general public.

” This protest is not about George Manneh Weah. We crafted and submitted to the office of the president a genuine concern that all Liberians have, yet, this President has refused to listen to those concerns but chooses to comment to a Molubah  Morlu so called drunken talk recording.”

” The president took nearly 30 minutes to respond to that tape but not  the concerns of millions of Liberians. Where are we going as a people and country?”, Sen. Dillon questions.

The Council of Patriots-CoP, stated that the lives of Liberians continued to subjected to object poverty and dehumanising conditions, yet the government under president George Manneh Weah, disregards these concerns.

CoP praised the intervention by the international community, especially UN, ECOWAS, the government of the United States, and other friendly countries and pledged to ahead to concerns raised in its yesterday’s joint press statement.

Sen. Dillon: “This call for protest, is not about self interest but the general concerns and interest of  the Liberians and foreigners alike.”

” On tomorrow, we will be peaceful as possible but let us remind undemocratic elements that we will not compromise the safety of any citizen going out there to freely expressed their constitutional rights.”

On the issue of lead campaigner Henry Costa last evening statement that some media owners have been bribed by Finance & Development Minister, Samuel Tweah, and Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill, to Not provide media coverage on tomorrow’s planned protest, Costa laugh out when quizzed to name who media owners being bribed but declined.

“Because you are here, you’re my man and we can talk it outside”. Henry Costa laugh out questions about his accusations that some members of the Liberian media were bribed by the government of Liberia not to provide coverage on tomorrow’s planned demonstration.

The insistence by CoP to stage a protest on tomorrow regardless of the banned by the ministry of Justice now sends mix reactions across city in less than 24 hours after the government of Liberia issued a strong worded statement last evening banning all street protest until January 2020.

The government said it’s decision was based on numerous request made from the staging of street protest which it has to review for the national security of the state.

” The government of Liberia would to make it clear that it respects the rights of its citizens to peacefully assembled, and to expressed their concerns in issues of their government, yet, the national security of the Country is paramount and the government will exercise the right to protecting the lives and property of all;”

” We therefore advise all groups to conform to this mandate and act in keeping with the laws of Liberia.” A ministry of Justice release stated.
