Ahead of COP December 30 ‘ Weah Step down campaign’, GOL Banned Mass Protest in Liberia

IPNEWS-MONROVIA: The government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Justice, has placed a temporary ban on all street protest until January 30,2020.

A release from the ministry of Justice this evening, states that there have been numerous request made by various groups wanting to stage protest ranging from ‘ protest, counter protest and peaceful assembly’, which the Ministry of Justice takes cognoscente of the national security implications and has advised all concern to conform to this mandate.

The ministry of Justice stated that while it respect the fundamental rights of all it’s citizens under the law to assemble and expressed their concerns, it has become imperative to take due cognoscente of  the intend of various groups wanting to protest with associated comments such as ‘ Weah step down’ and  counter protest’, which threatens the national security of the Country.

The ministry of Justice further assured Librarians and it’s citizens wanting to stage those various protest of the government fullest commitment to respecting their fundamental rights to peacefully assembled and will review the various request made.

However, the ministry of Justice advised all groups making those protest request to wait until the ministry of Justice shall have reviewed the following request by January 30,2020.

The release by the ministry of Justice this evening, followed rock throwing battle on the Old Road market community between supporters of Rep. Yekeh Korlubah and some unidentified young men believed to be supporters of former Representative Rufus  Neufville, independent Council of Patriots-ICoP, who have insisted that it will counter the planned Council of Patriots-CoP, Weah step down demonstration slated for Monday, December 30 2019, by CoP.

Across central town today, young men mainly disadvantage youths commonly known as ‘zogos’ patrolled across town chanting ‘ no protest’.

The zogos, lead by CDC youth chairman and Monrovia city mayor, Jefferson Korjee, riding on top a vehicle took portion of Carey street, a commercial Street, with heavily guarded partisans and zogos, at a local intellectual center, where lead weah step down campaigner and talk show host Henry Costa was expected to speak.

Unexpectedly, these developments followed yesterday’s meeting with a joint United Nations and ECOWAS mediation team between the government of Liberia and members of the Council of Patriots-CoP, in a bid to resolving concerns raised by CoP to the government of Liberia.
