IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-8Novemeber 2018: The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has sued it’s security guard, Abraham Somah and the driver identified as Louis Makakeh for stealing a sixty thousand (60,000.00USD) United States dollar vehicle.
Both defendants were arrested and charged for ‘theft of Property and Criminal Conspiracy’.
During police investigation, the suspects voluntarily admitted to the allegation levied against them and said the vehicle in question was sold to a fellow in the Black Gina Community, Jacob Town, whose face they could not identify.
The vehicle in question is the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser model (SUV) Jeep with the license plate A610416, worth US$60,000.00 (Sixty Thousand United States Dollars).
According to police, details of the offense stated that Darlington Barchue, the complainant of the ANC party narrated that during the month of December 2017 one of their ANC assigned drivers identified as Louis Makakeh escaped with a vehicle that was assigned to him by the ANC Party for assignment.
In the wake of this situation, complainant Barchue said the driver Makakeh switched off his phone and could not be seen at his house, but he (Barchue) learned that the driver had left the country. Defendant Louis Makakeh had, during the month of November 2017, refused a proposal by the late Randall Teage (Chief of Logistics, ANC) asking him (Makakeh) to join hands for them to sell one of the Party’s vehicles.
Moreover, the defendant explained that in the same month of November 2017, the deceased had ordered him to go for the car at Miss. Jail’s house located on the Old Road. The order was to take the car to the party headquarters, a mission he agreed to accomplish. Having driven the car to the party headquarters, his workmates, Abraham & Teage called and asked him to wait for them.
The defendant further narrated that when Abraham and the deceased met him, he proposed they sell the vehicle and the two agreed. So, they all drove the vehicle around German Embassy, Congo Town. At that point, Abraham got behind the steering and drove the vehicle to Black Gina Community located in Jacob’s Town, Paynesville.
Upon their arrival, both Abraham & Teage alighted from the vehicle and later came back to inform him (Louis) that they had sold the vehicle for eleven thousand united states dollars (11,000.00USD). The deceased then gave him (Makakeh) the sum of seven thousand united states dollars (7,000.00USD) as his share and told him to leave the country, go to Guinea and only return to Liberia much later.
According to defendant, Abraham Somah during investigation narrated that, between the months of November to December 2017, he was at his Old Road Residence when the late Randall Teage, the Chief of Logistic of the ANC went to his house and told him that, Louis Makakeh asked him (Randall) to render him a financial assistance to enable Louis travel out of the country.
In view of the above facts, coupled with the voluntary admission statements by defendants, the investigation has resolved to charge both defendants with the commission of crimes Auto Theft/Theft of Property and Criminal Conspiracy which contravened Chapters 15 & 10, Section 15.51 & 10.4 of the new penal code of the Republic of Liberia pending court trial.
