IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-30 September 2018: Gobachop market is one of Liberia’s most leading central market ground located in Paynesville redlight where marketers and buyers used for smooth business transactions but, the mountain of garbage is gradually taking over the market thus creating huge population and market congestion.
Marketers have described this situation as worrisome and embarrassing both to their health and businesses as they blame the Liberia Marketing Association gobachop branch for collecting money and refusing to seek their interest.
Massaboi Jomah is a local business man and a knife sharpener in gobachop market who told this paper that the issue of garbage is unwholesome and indefensible by the LMA relight chapter.
This paper managed to have spoken to the operation Superintendent of Gobachop market in person of Mr. Maclin B. Jallah as he explained.
“The problem of the garbage is because of the city mayor, she said this place is a transit point so they themselves bring tricycle here and dumped the dirt.”
“The other time we went to meeting she said every three days her entity will make sure to collect the garbage is not happening as she said and they are fully responsible to take the garbage from the gobachop field not the marketing Association. There was previously a designated site but it has gone beyond control due to the lack of dumping sites in various communities in Paynesville .” Mr.Jallah narrated.
He stated that garbage from the Duport Road Community and other nearby communities are also dispose there.
“The marketers can’t make this huge kind dirt and I can challenge any body that even now you go and sit down and you will see the Zogo’s bringing dirt as the community dwellers rather pay to the zogo’s to dispose their garbage here in gobachop market at night. “
“When the place was only use by the marketers there was no alarm but as soon as the city mayor said this place was a transit point definitely we started to experience great problem. The marketers are right to blame the market authority because we control them. They even came here the other time and put dirt in our office, we had to call the Monrovia City Major Jefferson Korjee to help us remove that particular dirt from our office so as we succeeded in getting the garbage from here, we will gather the market women to match at the city mayor office to request that this place should no longer be use as a transit no more because is an haphazard that threaten the sanitary condition.” Operation’s superintendent Maclin B.
