Trouble Looms On Sime Darby Plantation, Suspected Villagers Takes On Hostage; Where is Concession Security Guarantee?

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-31 August 2018: Scaring reports from the Sime Darby Plantation, says group of suspected villagers have attacked the Sime Darby’s Company facility in Grand Cape Mount County, taking one security officer hostage.

According to information gathered from the scene, a group heavily armed men cutlasses and other deadly weaponry, including handmade single barrel guns, attacked security officers of Sime Darby numbered in five during the early hours of on Tuesday, August 28,2017.

An eyewitness who is also an undercover security officer assigned in Grand Cape Mount county, hinted IPNews that the men ventrally young men emerged from various surrounding bushes along the concession areas of Sime Darby and voraciously attacked the security guards.

According to the officer who preferred not to be named, the attackers outnumber the Sime Darby officers adopting one and scrape one completely stripped-naked following severe beating.

The wounded officer identified as Anthony Tamba, is currently attaining to treatment at a local clinic in the Bushrod Island, contrary to report that the victim was admitted at the Bomi Estate Clinic, a sources hinted IPNews.

Other security officers sustaining injuries and are undergoing treatment are various locations are: John Sombai,  Steven Kpeh and Emmanuel Tarr.

It may be recalled, some citizens of Grand Cape Mount County, took to street in retaliation of an alleged beaten and torture of one of its citizens by suspected security officers of Sime Darby which when viral on social media.

Another incident recently occurred in Madina, when youths staged a protest, calling on the management of Sime Darby in adding them to ‘The Project Affected Communities (PAC)’, which will enable them to get some benefits from the company

Currently, Security officers at the Sime Darby do not carry fire arms except batons and handcuffs in accordance with Ministry of Justice regulation.

According to further information in the county, similar incident occurred few weeks ago when what was believed to be criminal trespass, allegedly shot another guard leaving him with serious injury.

It may be also recalled, the Management of Sime Darby has repeatedly alarmed over theft at its palm plantation.

In recent time, the Management of Sime Darby reported an additional planting of about ten thousand hectares of palm and constructed a mini mill for processing fresh palm brunch in the country.
