GTBank MD Spend First Night In Jail For Assaulting Employee; But Bank Reassures Employees and Clients

IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-29 August 2018: The government of Liberia through the Ministry of Labor, has ordered the immediate arrest of the Managing Director of the Guaranty Trust Bank (Liberia) Limited for assaulting an employee of the Bank.

The Managing Director, identified as Ayodeji David Bejide, is spending his first night in jail after mercifully assaulting a staff, identified as Edward Freeman.

The Labor Ministry in a release late this evening condemns the beating of Mr Freeman in all uncertain terms while in the employed of the Bank.

According to a release from the Ministry of Labor, the culprit Ayodeji Bejide, will be charged and sent to court to be tried as required by penal code and in conformity with the Labor laws of Liberia.

The Labor Ministry further assured employees of the Bank and other Liberians in the employed of other institutions, that it will ensure the vigorous enforcement of the ‘decent work act of Liberia , section 14.3 (d).

When contacted for further information leading to the assault, the Victim Edward Freeman through his legal counsel told our reporter that the legal team has taken full jurisdiction of the matter and the media will be duly inform as the case progress.

But some employees (names withheld),informed this paper that victim Edward Freeman was assaulted for not submitting a report on time as mandated by Mr. Ayodeji David Bejide, following a review of the Board of Directors in its August 2018 seating.

They also narrated that the culprit Ayodeji David Bejide is in the consent hobbit of verbally abusing employees especially females while performing their duties for minor issues that could handle.

They told further explained that many at times they worked long hours above their normal working hours without extra payment or show of courtesy from the accused Managing Director, Ayodeji David Bejide.

Meanwhile the legal department in a mid-night press release, informed the media that it has received reports of an assault on one of it employees and have immediately commenced in-depth investigation into the matter in accordance with it stand operating procedures-SOP.

GTBank in the release also reassured the public that it remains committed to upholding and abiding by the laws of Liberia and the respecter for the rights of all its Clients especially its employees and will do nothing to undermine that trust.

The release further reiterated the Banks total adherence to the rule of law, the ‘zero tolerance towards violence or assault of any kind as the Bank will hasten to deal with their actions in accordance with its code of conduct.

The release signed by its head, legal Company/Secretary, Alexander Zoe  emphasized and reassured it members and the general public that it remains committed to ensuring a safe business environment for its staff by providing a base-in-class service to its clients.

    Thanks to The Liberian Government especially, The Labor Ministry for taking action rightaway in this matter. This is an example for others to see and take note off… No Innoccent Citizens Of Liberia should be abuse, treating and assaulted in any form in his/her Country.
