Liberia Renews Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Territorial Integrity

IPNEWS: Liberia reiterated today its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over all its territories including its southern provinces in Western Sahara.

Liberia conveyed its steadfast position in a joint statement following talks between Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita and his Liberian counterpart Sara Beysolow Nyanti.

In the joint statement, Liberian minister Beysolow Nyanti renewed her country’s support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, describing it as the “only reliable and realistic solution” to end the dispute over Western Sahara.

She also expressed support for the UN as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical, and permanent solution to the dispute over the Western Sahara. Nyanti added tha Liberia is “extremely proud of the relationship and partnership” established between the two countries.

For his part, the Moroccan FM expressed his appreciation for Liberia’s steadfast and unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

He also recalled that Liberia was part of the countries that opened a consulate in Morocco’s southern provinces, specifically in Dakhla in March 2020. The opening of the consulate reflects Liberia’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

On Wednesday, Saint Kitts and Nevis, a two-island country in the Caribbean, also renewed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, as well as its  recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces as per the autonomy plan.

Morocco’s position in Western Sahara has been garnering significant support from a growing list of countries in the international community.

With this momentum, earlier this month, Morocco emphasized that it won’t accept any solution outside the framework of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.

A delegation led by Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s position during a meeting with UN Envoy for Western Sahara Staffan de Mistura in  Rabat.

Following the meeting, Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry stressed the constants of Morocco’s position, rejecting any solution outside the framework of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan.
