ANC & MPC Threaten Legal Action Against Gov’t on Tenure Positions

IPNEWS: The Movement for Political Change (MPC ) and the Alternative National Congress (ANC) are calling on the Unity party Government to uphold the Rule of Law and Democracy and the critical juncture in the history.

Reading the Joint Statement at the ANC headquarter in Monrovia the Political leader of the Movement for Progressive Change Simeon Freeman stated that recent actions by the government on the suspension of tenured officials have raised alarming questions about the collective commitment to the rule of law and the principles that underpin Liberia’s democratic gains.

Freeman said It has come to the attention of the opposition Community that in contrasts with the values, President Boakai has taken steps to remove tenured members of the government.

The Liberian politician said the action to suspend LTA officials with disregard to the Supreme Court’s mandate in a gangster-style maneuvers, just two days after its ruling are bridge to the rule of Law.

This blatant defiance which does not only undermines the judiciary’s authority but also threatens the very fabric of our governance and democracy. As the opposition, we wish to make it unequivocally clear.

Freeman said while the role is to provide constructive criticism and to work collaboratively for the better nation, the opposition community cannot and will not stand idly by as the constitution—the cornerstone of democracy is flouted.

The Liberian Businessman narrated that the commitment to democracy demands that citizens hold those in power accountable, ensuring that the rule of law is not only respected but upheld.

He said the opposition Community hereby call upon the President to adhere to the Supreme Court’s directives, to immediately retract these unwarranted actions, and to ensure that any changes in government positions are conducted within the legal framework that governs us all.

He said Failure to do so not only disrespect the judicial but also signals a dangerous departure from democratic norms.

“Let it be known, our resolve to challenge these actions—both legally and politically—is unwavering. The respect for the rule of law is not optional; it is the bedrock upon which our society stands.”

“Any attempt to undermine this foundation will be met with the full force of our commitment to democracy and justice. We stand together, united in our dedication to the principles of fairness, legality, and democratic governance”. Mr. Simeon Freeman stated.

He is at the same time urged President Boakai to reconsider his course, to respect the rulings of our courts, and to act in the best interest of all citizens, ensuring that our democracy remains strong and unassailable.

“We also stand in firm condemnation of the recent and alarming events in Kanjor, Cape Mount County, where the unnecessary use of force by police has tragically resulted in the loss of innocent lives. This incident is not isolated but indicative of a disturbing pattern of government excess and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.”

“We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families and call upon the international community, human rights organizations, and all stakeholders to join us in demanding justice and accountability” The joint MPC, ANC statement concludes.
