Liberia: CDC Draws Red Line Over Assets Recovery Task Force

—— Exposes Boakai’s Gov’t Defaults

IPNEWS: Amidst growing tension over the impoundment action by the Assets Recovery Taskforce, the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), of former President George Manneh Weah, says it does not subscribe to the Assets Recovery Task Force of President Boakai, and will not succumb to its terms.

Later Wednesday, March 28, the Assets Recovery Taskforce heavily guarded by armed police impounded the vehicles of former Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue and Finda Bondo, former Chief of Protocol, Republic of Liberia on suspicion of being stolen by the former officials.

Speaking at a major Press conference this week, Atty. Kowo said asset’s recovery team current exercise is unlawful, stressing that no one or institution has the right to seize anyone’s or private citizen property without a court order.

The CDC Acting Chairman called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai who constituted that committee to see the need to take seize of the matter because the Country is a Country of law and not man, as the Liberia leader is under direct oath and mandate to protect the organic law of the Country.

He vowed that the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change will constructively engage the ruling establishment in a drive to deliver on their promises to the people.

The former Comptroller General of Liberia described as false and misleading information from the head of the Assets recovery team, Cllr. Edwin Martin that former President George Weah did not declare his assets something he indicated was not only untrue but a gross disrespect to the former Head of State.

The CDC new acting Chairman warned the ruling Unity Party not to be the disrupter of their own government.

He told reporters that Cdicians are peaceful people and will remain peaceful and help protect the peace of the Country.

However, Chairman Kowo warned that the Boakai’s led government should desist from allegedly violating the constitution of the Country as well as causing tension and conflict for the people because if they continue, they will resist any attempt to violate the law of the Country through the legal means, a caveat, he added.

The government he said should be under legal mandate to protect and abide by the laws of the Country and should use all legal means and systems to address and or handle issues rather than arbitrary means.

He disclosed that the ruling Unity Party has made lots of errors and the CDC will remain a serious and constructive opposition to remind them to do the needful.

According to him, the mission of the CDC for the Country is not yet completed but by God’s willing, 2029, they will be back to do so.

“We were there before and we will get there again and sometimes, it is good to give your opponent a chance and we did but just imagine in less than 100 days, they have made lots of errors “, Atty Kowo told CDCIANS at the Party’s headquarters in Congo Town.

Kowo re-emphasized the alleged harassment of peaceful citizens and attacks relative to the assets recovery team exercise, the Kinjor protest that led to the loss of life of a reported  citizen, the forceful removal of qualified Liberians from tenure positions with unexpired terms, the alleged dismissal of civil servants from government payroll among are all unacceptable and needs to stop now.

CDC at the same time call on President Boakai to do the needful at the early stage of his government because in their words, the current government has already made several errors and needs to be corrected for the common good of the Country.

In support, Margibi County Sentor said the enemies plan to destroy the CDC political establishment has failed and the Party is marching back to victory in 2029.

The Former Chairman of the CDC at the same time hailed partisans for not giving up on their party and leaders but have rather been more energized to do the work of their political institution.

McGill told them that they lost the political battle but have not lost the political war because their mission to change Liberia has just begun.

Senator Mcgill stressed that those who believe that the party is gone should be mistaken because 2029, By God’s willing they will be back and even stronger.

He told his partisans that CDC was a ruling party before as such understands the rudiments of government and will do more in 2029.

According to him, so early, the people have started missing their standard bearer, former President George Weah and in his words, if election were to be held today, the CDC , he brags will win overwhelmingly.

Mcgill also encourage the current government to create the  necessary space for the people to exercise their democratic rights void of intimidation .

He wants the rule of law to at all times be the upheld and not to be violated.

At the same, the Margibi county Senator disclosed that they will remain a constructive opposition who will document ills of the current government and will as well flag out them in the interest of the masses.

Hon. McGill said in less than one hundred days in power, The Unity Party Led government, has engaged into extra Judicial Activities that he alleged violated the Constitution of Liberia including various laws of the state.

Outlining some of them, he told the press that the UP led government has allegedly embarked on summary dismissal of civil servants, violation of tenure positions which they as former government for twelve years initiated as well as the use of police to met out brutality against the people .

“The alleged harassment of peaceful citizens is dangerous, and if the government can physically attack peaceful citizens, then they are seeking trouble”, he noted.

The former CDC Chairman calls on President Boakai to replace in his government perpetrators of the Foya Elections violence that led to the death of Liberians who he recently appointed specially to serve in the same area where the incident occurred, terming as gross disrespect and a bridge of Protocol statement by the EPS indicating that there is no law to provide security for ex- President.
