President Boakai Suspends Surcharge On Petroleum Pricing Structure

—– Signs Book of Condolence for The Late Representative Johnson Gwaikolo

IPNEWS: The President of the Republic, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has issued an Executive Order suspending $0.20 surcharge on petroleum pricing structure with immediate effect.

The Order, numbered 128, was issued on March 21, 2024, and is part of the Government’s efforts to reduce the cost of living for its citizens.

The President believes that lowering the cost of petroleum will have a positive impact on the lives of Liberians, as it will reduce the cost of goods and services, spur productivity and business profitability, as well as increase revenue for the Government.

The Liberian Constitution allows the President to issue Executive Orders in the public interest to address urgent issues paramount to the Country’s development.

Meanwhile, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has signed the Book of Condolence in honor of the late former Nimba County District No. 9 Representative, Honorable Johnson Gwaikolo. The ceremony took place at the Capitol Building in Monrovia. The Nimba County Lawmaker passed away a few weeks ago.

Accompanied by an array of government officials, President Boakai performed the symbolic act by paying homage to the deceased in recognition and reflection of his invaluable contributions and services to the state and people.

Upon signing the book, President Boakai consoled the bereaved family, expressing great sadness at the loss of Honorable Gwaikolo.

The President encouraged the family to take solace in God and pray for direction during these difficult times of grief. Earlier at the President’s arrival, House Speaker Fonati Koffa, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, and several Committee heads met the Liberian Leader.

The remains of the late Honorable will be taken to Zekepa Town, Lower Nimba County, on March 30, 2024, where he will be laid to rest, according to family sources.
