Rep. Zarzar Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree from St. Michaels Christian University

IPNEWS-Monrovia: St. Michaels Christian University based in the United States has conferred upon Sinoe County District #3 Representative, Matthew G. Zarzar, the honorary degree of Doctor of Community and Human Capacity Development.

The honorary degree was given to Rep. Zarzar “in grateful recognition of his five decades of exemplary commitment as a public servant, lawmaker and an advocate of social concerns such as the promotion of social justice, human rights, peace, and universal access to education, among others.”

Dr. Victor Akoh of St. Michaels Christian University conferred the honorary degree in the conference room of the Capitol Building on Capitol Hill on Friday, May 19, 2023.

“It is an honor and pride to be conferred with this honor. It is prophetic and therefore, I humbly accept this honorary degree, grateful that my hard work, dedication, passion and commitment as a public servant are acknowledged,” Rep. Zarzar said.

Senator Cllr. Augustine Chea, chairman of Sinoe County Legislative Caucus, thanked the administration of St. Michaels University for the honor and said “Dr. Zarzar’s five decades of public service with clean integrity has paid off. “You have not only honor Hon. Dr. Zarzar but also the people of Sinoe County.”

Speaker Bhofal Chambers, in his remarks said that Rep. Dr. Zarzar is a man of an impeccable character, and the conferment was not a mistake.

Dr.  Zarzar served the following public service positions in and out of Liberia.

Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Education; General Manager, National Bank of Liberia; Deputy Managing Director, LPRC, Deputy Minister for Revenue, Ministry of Finance; and Assistant Minister for Expenditure & Debt Management, Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Zarzar also served as Administrator, Nisako Services, Minnesota, USA; Manager, Lutheran Social Service, Minnesota, USA:

Dr. Zarzar also served as Instructor, North Hennepien College, Hennepien College, MN, USA, Accounts Receivable Coordinator, Courage Center, Minnesota, U.S.A, and specialist, Bank Merger Team, USBankCorp, Minnesota, USA, Vice President, Agricultural and Cooperative Development Bank, Accounts Payable Contractor-IBM, Silver Spring, Maryland, USA.

The honoree served the following positions held at the Ministry of Finance, Republic of Liberia:

Book keeper, Accountants, Financial Analyst, Supervisor for Cash, Chief Internal Auditor, Deputy Director, BGA, Director of Budget.
