Liberia’s Political Parties Pledge Peaceful Elections in 2023

IPNEWS-Monrovia: As Liberia prepares for its presidential and legislative elections in October 2023, the nation’s political parties have united and pledge their commitments to Peaceful, transparent and credible elections.
They agreed to resolve any disputes through legal means.

On April 4, 2023 at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi, Liberia leaders from 27 of 31 political parties signed the Farmington River Declaration 2023, an enhanced and comprehensive declaration designed to ensure a non-violent electoral process.

The declaration builds on the foundation of the initial pledge signed in 2017.
Today’ s signing ceremony was organised under the auspices of Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC).
The ECOWAS and UN served as witnesses to the signing process.

President George Weah attended and signed as political leader and standard- Bearer of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change.

It can be recalled similar exercise was undertaken in 2017 under the auspices of the former ruling governing Unity Party of  president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. And through to that signing ceremony of 2017 there were no violence during the process that brought the CDC government to power.

Former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf graced the occasion as well as the President of the ECOWAS Commission who is currently visiting Liberia.
