Another Unity Party Eviction Looms!

As Amin Modad, Mo Ali Suffer Defeat to Two Kru Boys

IPNEWS: Impeachable sources within the former ruling Unity Party have hinted the authoritative Independent Probe Newspaper that the party is again on the verge of being evicted from its newly acquired party national headquarters on snapper hill Broad Street, in Monrovia.

The report comes days after its outgoing National Chairman and National Secretary General, Amin Modad, Mo Ali was booted out at the UP’s just-ended national convention in the central Liberia capitol of Gbarnga.

According to the report, the property was negotiated by the outgoing chairman, Amin Modad, with his brother identified as Sam Modad on the heels of the eviction of UP by McClain Enterprises for failure to settle US$150,000 rental fees.

Sources closed to the outgoing chairman Amin Modad, told IPNEWS that upon pleads by the outgoing UP Chairman his brother granted the request for the use of the premises.

“Upon the granting of the right for the use of the property, Amin took his own money through connections and renovated the property. Now today UP got a headquarter they can be pried off. Is this a man you will treat like this?”

“Whether Amin Likes it or not he got to lay low so some who do not understand that the Unity Party is broke will now understand what Amin when through to get the shame and disgrace from the party during its dark hours!” An angry associate of Amin Modad told IPNEWS.

On November 24, 2021, the former Ruling Unity Party, was ordered evicted from its Congo Town Headquarters by the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice for failure to settle US$150,000 rental fees.

The eviction order follows the party’s lawyers’ open confession in court that they were indebted to McClain Enterprises, the owner of the building that the Unity Party’s headquarters.

Civil Law Court Judge, Kennedy Peabody on Tuesday held the party liable, In summary proceedings.

The summary proceeding was intended to recover possession of real estate property from the political party.

At the same time, the court reduced the owner of the building’s USD$ 250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand) demand for damages to USD$ 20,000 (Twenty Thousand United States Dollars), before evicting the former the Party from the property.

During the proceeding, defense lawyers interposed no objections to the fees owed the owners but rejected the US$20,000 (Twenty Thousand Dollars) that the Court awarded the owners of the property for damages with an appeal to the Supreme Court, consistent with Chapter 24, Section 24.1 & 2 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

The McClains have maintained that the lease agreement between them and the Unity Party has since expired in 2018, but up to and including July 2020, the Unity Party was owing them an arrear of US180,000 (Thousand United States Dollars) for three years and has since refused to pay the amount.

The debt ran from July 1, 2018, to July 30, 2021, at the rate of US$60,000 per year.

In a swift response to the eviction order, the Unity Party on December 22, 2021, officially opened its new headquarters situated at upper Broad Street, following its eviction from the building that served as its national headquarters when it ruled the country under Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The UP came under criticism for ‘not being responsible’ in settling its rent and thereby causing the eviction. The party was also criticized for not having its own headquarters despite its 12-year rule.

“Unity party is a party of people who are desirous of making progress and we are here to give you hope. We have been telling you about Liberia, but this Liberia is about you and all of you are here because you want to get something better,” Boakai said.

Boakai said he, as the UP political leader, will ensure that Liberians get the needed jobs that will give them dignity.

“We will do everything in our means to ensure this country is safe and I don’t care what they do, or they say, this country will never remain the same. Some of you have been afraid that maybe you will lose your jobs, but what job there for you to lose, you need job that will give you dignity,” Boakai said.

He further cautioned citizens that they should always vote their conscious in any election process and should not vote on the basis of getting money.

At the same time, Boakai has bragged about having the respect of the international community, as the 2023 Presidential race draws closer.

“So, I want to say to you, Unity Party, the real Liberty Party and the real ALP will work together and when they give you money, eat it. we have the respect of the international community, and they believe in us. the Bible says, where there is no version, the people perish,” Boakai stressed.

For his part, Unity Party Chairman, Amin Modad said that the dedication of the party’s new headquarters was a cause undertaken by the current leadership.

“Let today resonate that the Unity Party should not be taken for granted. Despite the doubts, lies and rumors, we remained united,” Chairman Modad maintained.

Meanwhile, Modad said the dedication of the party’s headquarters signifies it rebirth.

He said: “We are here today because of a cause, a cause not only about individuals, a cause that goes beyond names, but a cause that that goes beyond desire to improve the lives of Liberians to give them alternative that will address their future.”

Last week, Rev. Luther Tarpeh defeated incumbent chairman Amin Modad, as National Chairman of the opposition Unity Party, while Amos Tweh won controversial Mohammed Ali National Secretary, at the party national convention in Gbarnga.

Ali suffered a 208 votes margin at the hand of Amos Tweh, from a total 131 votes obtained, while Tweh obtained a total vote cast of 168 out of a total delegate of 339.

In the battle for chairmanship, Rev. Tarpeh secured a total of 188 votes to defeat his rival, Amin Modad.

IPNEWS understand that since the returned from Gbarnga last week, there is uneasiness within the corridors of the former ruling party.

Sources hints there have been verbal attacks amongst executives of the UP and logouts from the officials UP chartrooms over discontenting issues raising at the convention in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Also, at the Gbarnga convention former Bong County superintendent Selena Polson-Mappy defeated former Monsterrado County lawmaker Josephine Francis for the position of Vice Chairman for Women Affairs of the party, while the incumbent Senior National Vice Chairman of the party, Dabah Varpilah, was elected unopposed.

Others wining on unopposed was Cornelia Kruah, for the position of Vice Chairman for Inter-Party Affairs after the Election Committee disqualified B. Miller Catakaw from contesting for his failure to pay his dues.

Meanwhile, following a complaint from one of the candidates for the Youth Chairmanship Position, the election for youth chair was postponed pending investigation, according to the chairman of the Election Commission, Lofa representative Clarence Massaquoi.
