Civil Society Group Commends Paul Sethi for “Swift Action” in Industrial Accident

IPNEWS – Monrovia: The National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has commended the incredible effort of the Chief Executive Officer of Sethi Brothers, Paul Sethi, for swiftly coming to the aid of victims affected by the fire incident that recently engulfed the Sethi Steel Factory in the LPRC community, Gardnersville.

According to a release from NACSUL, Sethi, on Thursday, August 19, secured a chartered flight from Senegal to transport four critically injured victims of the fire outbreak to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana, for advanced medical treatment. However, one of the victims, Achelal Sarooj, an Indian, passed out before the departure time.

In a press statement issued Sunday, August 22, 2021, and signed by the Secretary General of the group, Alexander H.M. Kromah, NACSUL said, “We regret the fire incident that recently engulfed the Sethi Steel Factory and severely burning seven staffers of the company. Our preliminary investigation reveals that the unfortunate incident occurred accidentally; as such, it should not be politicized in any form or manner, as management will not willfully create a situation to injure its own employees.”

NACSUL welcomed Sethi management’s decision to conduct an investigation to know the root cause of the fire, and appealed to the residents of Montserrado County’s district #12 to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigation. “As an independent civil society organization, we will work closely with Sethi’s management to know the cause of the fire and release the findings to the public as soon as possible,” NACSUL noted.

According to the group, Paul Sethi is one of the highest taxpaying businessmen in the country. “He consistently complies with tax regulations,” they added. According to them, Sethi’s investment contributes highly to the revenue generation of the nation, and so he should not be wrongly treated or intimidated for an unforeseen accident, which is far more beyond human control. They noted that Paul’s decision to fly the victims out of the country is commendable and should be welcomed by all well-meaning Liberians.

“We see Paul Sethi’s swift intervention to fly the victims out of the country as a manifestation of good management. We are aware that Paul Sethi is taking full charge of the victim’s needs while at the 37 Military Hospital. We would like to use this medium to appreciate him for his farsightedness and humanitarian gesture,” the NACSUL release continued.

Meanwhile, the National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has called on the families of the four Liberian victims to remain hopeful that their relatives will come back home safe and healthy.
