CONFUSION SPARKS BETWEEN NEC Chair- CO- CHAIR TEPLA REEVES

IPNEWS: What appears to be deepening conflict within the National Elections Commission involving two senior Commissioners has now come to the public glee.

A leaked communication obtained by IPNEWS has demonstrated an intense bad-blood currently between the two highly-rated legal professionals.

The communication by the chairperson of the Liberian National Elections commission , Madam Davietta Browne Lassana expressed serious dissatisfaction and disappointment over her principle Deputy, Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves, absence from work without her knowledge or duly excuse.

The letter dated Friday, April 16 2021, Madam Lassana stated that while ‘Cllr. Reeves was acting in her position during her absence on her official foreign trip, she violated the standard code of the institution which has undermined her functions as the Boss of the National Elections Commission.

The NEC chairperson said her principal deputy failed to adhered to terms of agreement contained in the memo to act as a commissioner while she was way .

Lassana stated that ‘it doesn’t only render disservice to her but also undermines her position and served as total disrespect to her position’.

Madam Lassana further disclosed that it was agreed upon that, Reeves should have submitted a briefing note right after her return and was to be in consultations with her via phone or email
on Financial and Administrative matters but Reeves fails in all.

Meanwhile the Liberian National Elections Commission chairperson, Madam Lassana, has stated that her Co-chair actions while she was away did not augur well for the smooth running of the NEC for which there are many issues are evolving at the National Elections commission which has the propensity to continued, including funding for the commission, legal and administrative matters from the December 8 2020 Special Senatorial Elections that needs the attention and acquiescence of the chairperson of the commission, which was necessary to keep the chair afloat and ready to be able to respond to directly.

Additionally, NEC chair Lassana has requested Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves, to respond to her observations in an appropriate time and manner.
