IPNews-GANTA,Nimba County: The People’s Unification Party (PUP), over the weekend held its 2nd national convention in Ganta City, Nimba county in fulfillment of the party’s constitution.

The two days convention was held under the theme “Building A Vibrant political Machinery, Safeguarding the political future of Liberia”.

The PUP was formulated by a group of Legislators at the 53rd National Legislature supervised by former House Speaker, James Emmanuel Nuquay between late 2013 and early 2014.

The PUP 2nd national convention was characterized by the election of new batch of officials to coordinate the affairs of the party for the next four years.

Those elected include, Nimba county District#5 Rep. Samuel G. Kogar as the party National Chairman, while Tokpah John Mulbah, Chair of the party’s governing council among other officials elected on white ballots.

The Party has however named Mr. James Emmanuel Nuquay, former Nimba County District #4 Lawmaker, Attorney Garrison Doldeh Yealue, and current Grand Cape Mount County Representative Emnerson Kamara as its first batch of contestants.

Former House Speaker James Emmanuel Nuquay used the occasion to urge partisans and supporters of the opposition People’s Unification Party (PUP) not to renege on ensuring that the party acquires more slots at the Liberian Senate in the impending December 8 special senatorial elections.

According to Nuquay, the PUP emerged out of the Legislature, therefore Legislative election at all times should be seen as a make or break election for the party.

Nuquay, the flag bearer  of the PUP boasted that his party is the third-largest political parties in the governance structure of the country, particularly at the Legislature.

He pleaded with his partisans and supporters to do everything humanly possible in order for the party to uphold its prestige by securing more seats in the pending elections.

“The sole intent of the PUP is for us to galvanize ourselves and ensure broader participation of our people and give them a platform where they can speak; a platform where their voices can be heard” Mr. Nuquay added.

Following the establishment, the party firstly participated in the 2014 midterm election where current Margibi County Senator Rev. Dr. Jim Tornorla emerged as a victor on their ticket.

They also succeeded in winning five seats at the House of Representatives in the 2017 election.

It can be recorded, the PUP and the former ruling Unity Party (UP) collaborated and the came close to winning in 2017 while featuring former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai and James Emmanuel Nuquay as standard bearer and vice standard bearer, respectively.

Meanwhile, at the close of the conversation, delegates resolved on the following three (3) counts:

*That the party will put forth candidates in the fifteen political sub-division for every election.

*That elected officials of the party will serve for four years.

* That the party convention should be held every four years.

The delegates were selected across the country.
