IPNews-Monrovia-Gbarnga, Bong County: ArcelorMittal-Liberia has made available some assorted medical materials to the Bong County Health Team.
ArcelorMittal Liberia’s operation center around three key components: mining, railing and shipping. Since the start of construction operations in 2006, the company has invested $500 million in roads, schools, hospitals, and training; $7 million in resettlement programs and initiated an extensive program to improve the livelihoods of those affected by their operations.
Materials donated include: one set of Ventilator, Oxygen concentrator, 240 bottles of Hand sanitizers, 20 pieces of mattresses, Nose masks, and several pieces of face shield.
Presenting the items on behalf of ArcelorMittal Management, the head of Community liaison Mr. Varney Kaizolu said the materials are in addition to the medical equipment and supplies that were donated to the Ministry of health for the use of COVID-19 response.
According to Mr. Kaizolu, the medical equipment and supplies will help the County Health team fight the COVID-19 Pandemic in the County.
The ArcelorMittal Liberia Community liaison boss placed the monetary value of the items to a little over US$16,000.
Receiving the materials officially on behalf of the County, Bong County Superintendent Madam Esther Yamah Walker thanked the management of ArcelorMittal for always responding to their plights.
She said the materials donated will help the County Health Team to quickly respond to COVID-19 cases.
“ArcelorMittal is our old time friend because during the Ebola epidemic in 2014, they identified with us. So it is not strange to us” Madam Esther Yamah Walker records.
“We are cognizant of the role ArcelorMittal Liberia has played in the health sector of the county. There is a need for us to appreciate them” she concluded.
Also remarking at the occasion, Bong County Health Team Officer Dr. Adolphus Yeah described the donation as timely.
According to Dr. Yeah, the materials came at a time when the county health team is in desperate need of equipment to combat the corona virus in the county.
“I can guarantee you that the materials will be used to augment the efforts of our health workers across the county” Dr. Adolphus Yeah assured.
The Bong County Health Team boss however appealed for both budgetary and equipment supports to intensify their fight as a county.
Recently, Dr. Adolphus Yeah confirmed that the Bong County Health Team received eighteen thousand ($18,000) USD from the national government to battle the virus despite other smaller donations in the county.
