‘Resisting Financial Maneuvering @ Capitol’ CPP New Legislative Caucus Vows

IPNews-Monrovia: Lawmakers within the four opposition Collaborating Political Parties have consummated the formation of a Legislative Caucus that is expected to guide their conduct in the exercise of their duties on Capitol Hill with respect to the mandate of their collaboration that brought their respective parties together.

The main opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) comprising the All Liberian Party (ALP), Alternative National Congress (ANC), Liberty Party (LP) and the Unity Party (UP) has a legal framework document with a call on leaders of each political party to put their differences aside and work in the interest of the Liberian people.

Based on the collaboration, Representatives and Senators of the collaborating parties met on Thursday and elected new officials to head the caucus for the next eight months.

In the new arrangement, Representative Papa Kolleh of the ALP, representing electoral District #7 Bong County was endorsed as chairman.

Leadership positions were divided amongst the four collaborating political parties. The All Liberian Party (ALP) was elected chairman; Former ruling Unity party (UP) took the Secretary General position, while the Liberty party (LP) is the Co-Cahir and the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Assistant Secretary General respectively.

Minutes following the establishment of their Caucus, the Secretary of the CPP Caucus told journalists that based on the collaboration they will speak with one voice, and decisions on capitol will be endorsed or rejected by the CPP Caucus based on the mandate of the collaboration.

Representative Hason Kaizulu intoned that with the new cooperation, lawmakers of the CPP will no longer scrutinize issues based on individual party mandate but will do so under the doctrine of the CPP.

According to Rep. Kaizulu, the CPP will not just allow anyone to speak on any political issue that will be reversed later; adding “we will work with our leaders on issues and come out with one voice.”

He further noted that members of the Caucus will not go about making political statements mainly because they are seeking re-election but a united voice, thereby pointing accusing fingers at Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillion.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the CPP Caucus, Representative Papa Kolleh said, the new arrangement by the caucus was intended to solidify the CPP caucus in making a difference in terms of how they work on national issues.

“We will work to strengthen the leadership of the CPP and engage the government positively on issues affecting the country,” Rep. Joseph P. Kolleh CPP caucus chairman.

Speaking further, he also told reporters that with such collaboration, issues at the legislature will no longer be what he termed “business as usual”.

He added that with the new arrangement by the opposition Lawmakers, there will be no more “Financial or political Maneuvering” by the Ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

“CPP will make sure we hold the floor and will scrutinize any document that will be put on the floor,” added.
