IPNews-Monrovia: With eight days to the expiration of the State of Emergency (SOE) declared by President George M. Weah , a member of the Liberian Legislature says there is no need for the extension of the(SoE) amid the hardship faced by the citizenry.

On April 8, 2020 the Liberian Leader declared a State of Emergency which took effect on Friday April 10, 2020 for a period of 21 days pending legislative approval.

The SoE was impregnated with a lockdown beginning 3:00pm to 6:00am, quarantined of Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba and Grand Kru Counties. Also movement from one county to another was also halted.

Based on their constitutional responsibility, Members of both houses of the Legislature endorsed the SOE, with a modification for number of day extended from 21 to 60 days, and a lockdown beginning at 3:00pm to 6:00am.

The SoE and other measures were meant to curtail the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in the Country.

Since the declaration of the SoE to combat COVID-19 Liberia continues to register an unprecedented increase in the cases of the virus.

Liberia Coronavirus confirmed cases have climbed to 311 and 28 deaths, with 116 HIGH RISK CASES and 167 recoveries.

Montserrado County, Grand Bassa and Margibi County become the latest zones for the virus speared according to a latest report from the National Public Health Institute of Liberia statistics.

President George Weah is expected to make the third extension of the state of emergency this weekend with additional measures.

Montserrado County Abraham Darious Dillon speaking to legislative reporters Tuesday on the grounds of the capitol told legislature reporters that the government in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus should use the public health law instead of continually using the State of Emergency which he says is not making any “impact”.
