Marketers Frown over Garbage Pollution; Accused Community Residents of bad Hygiene Practice

IPNews-Monrovia: Many citizens greatly depend on central government to build a resilient health system understanding that sanitation begins from every individuals which generate to personal hygiene given the health risk associated with unsanitary community ranging from food borne, waterborne, airborne diseases taken into consideration the mode of transmission which is hazardous to human life. This is the situation marketers of police Academy are confronted with thus accusing community dwellers of using the market center as garbage site something they describe as worrisome. Marketers at the Police Academy community market have frown over the constant unhealthy attitude of some individuals using their market as garbage site.

Their statement is in response to the challenging situation of unwholesome act perpetrated by some unscrupulous individuals who continue to depose waste in the public facility where consumable items are sold.

The marketers individually expressed frustration over the government failure to remove the huge garbage which is creating serious health hazard for at their various business centers.

“It is important for the government through the Paynesville City Cooperation (PCC) to speedily remove the garbage surrounding the market because is creating a serious unhealthy market environment for us.” Said Ma Korpo Sheriff in an frustrating tone.  Ma Korpo further explain to Independent Probe, that the garbage has spend over two (2)years in the market and up to present noting is being done to remedy the situation

She alleged that community dwellers are responsible for the mountain of garbage in the market while on the other hand blamed the management of PCC for failure to remove the garbage after several reports complaining the community dwellers and alarms of health threat.

She alleged the collection of funds by some members of the Paynesville City Corporation for the purpose of removing the garbage which the Corporation has failed to live up to expectation thus forcing them into self-initiatives. Meanwhile, Another Marketer Miss Hawa Kaimu is seeking the intervention of the government in preventing residents of the police Academy Community from polluting the market and helps designate a particular site for the dumping of garbage.

However, when contacted, a lady name Ma Yah who many marketers regard as head of the Market aggressively responded “go to the houses over there, and ask how the dirt is here not me.”Said Ma yah

Harris Kokah, a resident of Police Academy Community said, finding solution to remove the dirt has been a major challenge confronting the community adding that, “we have called on the community chairman to reach PCC, but to no avail.”

Mr. Kokah blamed some community residents for given dirt to disadvantage youth commonly refer to as (Zogoes) to dispose which is the contributing factor to the problem currently encounter by marketers.

Mr. David Lawor, chairman of the Police Academy community in a telephone said after several attempts to have a discussion with the management of PCC to remove the dirt, they are not heeding to his calls.

Mr. Lawor said PCC instead request for money from the community to have fuel in their vehicles before removing dirt.

He confirms that the community has been taking self- an initiative to remove the garbage which is not enough.

 

Meanwhile, the public relations official of PCC, Mr. Jeremiah Diggen said, the cooperation does not remove dirt freely noting that citizens now have to subscribe with the Commercial Waste Department and pay according to the amount of dirt generated to have their dirt remove.

Mr. Diggen refuted claims made by the marketers and the community chairman stressing that the community is carrying on illegal dumping at the market place which is against the city ordinance and risk being fined by PCC.

He called on citizens of Paynesville to take the sanitary condition of their environment as a key focus by inquiring about the subscription with (CWD) to have dirt remove.

Diggen further urged citizens to stop giving money to Zogoes for the disposal of their dirt, adding that “the betterment of Paynesville is everyone’s business.”
