Lofa Students Launched Association- President Rufus Konneh expresses Frustration over poor turnout by County officials.

IPNews-Monrovia:  Lofa Students at Barshell University under the banner “Lofa University Student Association “have officially launched the association during the close of the week.

The Lofa student Barshell Chapter is a conglomeration of Lofa citizens representing the broad spectrum of the seven political, and five electoral districts of the six local languages in the county. The program which was held at the Barshell University main campus brought together representatives of other Lofa student base associations; dignitaries including representatives from the vice president office, office of Senator Steve Zargo, Hon.Mariamu B. Fofana, and Montserrado County district 3 Representative Hon. Ceebe Barshell. Speaking at the occasion, the guest speaker and Chief Launcher Hon. Mariamu Fofana thank the students for the level of cordiality and admonish them to be watchful as 2020 senatorial election gets closer.

Mr. Varmuyan Kanneh who proxy on behalf of Lofa County district 3 law marker caution Lofa students to remember those who will come to their aid before, during and after the political season. He said as the political season approaches many will come pretending to care for your well-being, but on the contrary they only after to enrich themselves. “You invited many officials especially from Lofa, but as you can see the place is empty because they think you want their money so my fellow students be wise the time is here” said Varmuyan Kanneh.

Varmuyan Kanneh who came along with other staff from the office of Hon. Mariamu Fofana said Lofa County is gradually transitioning from bread basket to brain basket adding that Lofa is normally among the high ranging counties during every graduation of the state run University and other public sectors as such Lofa Barshell University students should not be an exception. In conclusion, the office of Hon. Mariamu Fofana has pledged hundred thousand Liberian dollars $100.000 LD to buttress the Association as a formal support to education

Hon. Mariamu Fofana is a two terms representative of district 4 Lofa County whose political ambition continue to grow as she eye the senatorial seat come 2020 senatorial race, but the question remains whether she will be favor by other districts.

In a related development, Montserrado district 3 representative and proprietor of the Barshell University Hon. Ceebe Barshell was on Friday November 8, 2019 Honored by the Leadership and members of the association in recognition of his valuable contribution to the development of young people, and sixty percent tuition waver in the wake of Liberia’s struggling economy.

In response to the students, Montserrado district 3 Representative Hon. Barshell thank the Leadership of the entire University and the Association of Lofa Students for the Honor bestowed upon him, and see it as a motivation to improve the University at all levels especially the nursing and agriculture.

Hon. Barshell urged students to attach seriousness to their studies to prepare them for the future adding that, he has done his best to establish the University as such the faculty and staff should try their utmost best in managing the institution.

He further noted that the institution have had past corrupt presidents who continue to print the image of the University negatively to the outside world while the college continue to progress tremendously contrary to their negative expectations and assertions towards the University. Meanwhile, the president of the Lofa Student Association Barshell Chapter Mr. Rufus Konneh has lauded the efforts of the entire administrative body of the University, and the student populace for their support in the successful accomplishment of the program. He acknowledged the participations and coordination’s of his fellow compatriots in the discharge of their duties relevant to the transformation of the Association.

He said the launching of the Association is intended to generate funds for the support of Lofa students in Barshell University, but express frustration and disappointment over the inability of some prominent citizens from Lofa who were invited to Grace the occasion, but they not show out. He said despite their actions not to attend the program, the Association remains committed to the struggle and will very soon embarked on the visitation of offices to seek redress. He thank few other law makers like Clearance Massaquoi for his support during the program planing, Mariamu Fofana for her commitment to student struggle and Hon. Steve Zargo who was represented by Mr. Kpehe Blama former general president of the Lofa University Student Association and office staff of senator Zargo who pledged $ 10,000 LD
