Liberia: Rep. Alfred Koiwood Teenage Son cries out for Abandonment; Wants House Intervention

By: S. Winston Blyden

IPNews-Monrovia: A teenager between age 17 years, claiming to be the biological son of Gbarpolu County district 2 Representative Alfred Koiwood, Β has written the House of Representative, complaining the lawmaker of persistent non-support

In a communication written to the House, the minor appealed to House Speaker Bhofal Chambers to intervene into the matter to help him.

The minor identified as Jermine G. Kiowood, agae 17, called on Representative Koiwood to provide him educational support, feeding and shelter due to his mother’s inability to support him.

When contacted by our reporter, Representative Koiwood said β€˜he was not prepared to comment on the matter’.

Meanwhile House speaker Bhofal Chambers has taken charged of the matter pending an investigation.

It may be recorded Frontpageafrica ,Bettie K. Johnson-Mbayo, reported an article in which Eleven-year-old Robertlyn Poopeh did not mind her father being handcuffed and escorted to the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly failing to support her education.

Robertlyn, a student of St. Theresa Convent in Monrovia, sued her father for his alleged refusal to provide her basic needs, something she said was unfair to her mother.

She filed for the writ of arrest through her mother but took the stand in the judge’s chambers to explain why she sued her father.

The minor lamented that she has been out of school due to her father’s refusal to honor his responsibility by paying her tuition.

β€œMy mother said she doesn’t have money, every time we call him he doesn’t come so we brought him to court so the court must compel him to help my mother,” she explained.

Youku Morris, Robertlyn’s mother said, since 2015 her ex-fiancΓ© has refused to support their child in spite of numerous promises.

Youku said the Ministry of Gender, Women, and Children Protection Section of Liberia National Police have records to prove that he has defaulted on his commitment to their daughter.

The case is not strange to the Monrovia City Court as the previous judge in 2015 ruled that Poopeh pay L$2000 and a half bag of rice monthly.

β€œEach time I called him for the girl’s support, his answer is β€˜I don’t have money’, and I can’t compel him.”

She said though the court ruled, his refusal to support their daughter led to her complaint against him.

Youku toldΒ FrontPageAfricaΒ that in 2017 Poopeh came along with family members to beg that the case be taken out of the court for settlement, which she did.

According to her, early August this year, her daughter was informed about her remaining fees on campus, and she (Robertlyn) decided to inform him (Poopeh) but he said he had no money.

Robertlyn, according to her mother, was put out of the campus and she decided to issue the writ on her father unknown to her (Youku).

Youku said she was surprised that their daughter did such. β€œI was only told to appear at the court on Tuesday, and I asked for what the sheriff told me that my daughter brought a complaint on persistent non-support.”

β€œShe did all she could along with the sheriff to arrest her father, according to her, they went to his house over two times and later he was found,” she explained.

At the court, Robertlyn said her continuous appearance at the court was to compel them to take her case seriously.

β€œMy education comes first and my mother is selling cold water for us to survive, my father has refused to help us, so the court must take action.”

Refuting the claims against him, Poopeh told the judge that he had receipts of his support to the child, but when it was requested, he brought in 2015 receipts, something that the judge said was not timely for the complaint.
