Nat’l Legislature Holds Budget Scrutiny for four Spending Ministries & Agencies Today

IPNews-Monrovia: The Liberian Legislature is expected to begin public scrutiny of the US$532 million draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2019/2020 this morning.

According to a Legislative PRESS Bureau release, the Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance & Development Planning and Public Accounts & Expenditure of the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate are on top of the process to ensure full compliance.

A release from the Press Bureau of the House of Representatives noted the expenditure component of the proposed national budget is preceding the conclusion of a healthy discussion on the revenue envelope.

The hearing commences at 10 am Wednesday, August 21 in the joint chamber of the Legislature at the Capitol Building.

The release quotes the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Rep. Thomas Fallah as requesting heads of Government Ministries and State Owned Enterprises to submit copies of their 2018/2019 budget performance reports, statement of cash flows, statement of retained earnings and strategic plan as required by the Public Financial Management Law of 2009.

Meanwhile, ministries and agencies that are expected to appear before the joint Committee on today Wednesday include the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Civil Service Agency, amongst others.

over 50 government spending entities are expected to appear before the Joint Committee between August 21 and September 2, 2019.
