IPNews-Monrovia: the University of Liberia Professor and former Finance Minister of Liberia David M. Farhat has suggested that the administration of President George M. Weah must recruit experienced managers to help him fix the country’s fading economy.
It may be recorded, the government since it’s inception has been rocked by series of tremendous economic difficulties, including the much talked about missing sixteen billion Liberian dollars and 25 million United States dollars which sparked controversies.
The controversies led to the government of Liberia hiring through the United States Embassy an international financial auditing firm which conducted its audit and made several recommendations in resuscitating the economy, yet, the current exchange rate stands at LRD 200 to 1 USD dollar with a continued rise in the prices of basic commodities.
According to the UL professor, who worked during the government of the ex-president Samuel Doe’s regime as Finance Minister, made the comments in an exclusive interview with IPNews in Monrovia.
Prof. Farhat also called on President George Weah to do all it takes to improve its foreign relations with the rest of the world as no one nation is totally independent.
Additionally, the UL professor called on the government of Liberia to pay more attention to vulnerable Liberian youths whom he said have become a serious embarrassment for the government and the society as a whole.
Making reference to the increasing numbers of drugs users called ‘Zogos’, the experienced public servant call on the government to designed a comprehensive reintegration plan, including vocational education to rescue a dying generation.
Professor David Farhat, a former minister of Finance, is the Director of the Graduate Program of Business and Public Administration (MBA/MPA) at the University of Liberia (UL).
