The Tubor’s Story – from a “Dumpa boy” to a University Student Leader – a man on the path to the Legislature

By: Our Political Writer

IPNews-LT City: Amos Nyanwleh Tubor is one of the seven candidates aiming to fill the legislative seat of Montserrrado County District 15 in the pending by election.

The seat was made vacant by the death early this year of Representative Adolph Akwe Lawrence.

And while the vacancy has led to various individuals coming forward, including the daughter millionaire Liberian business man Benoni Urey, Telia Urey, it is Tubor that many say truly epitomizes a son of the soil status.
Born in the eighties, Tubor was a boy who grew up in a slum neighborhood of Zinc Camp, Logan Town.

Tubor lost his mother at a very start of his life and his father died in the Liberian civil war.

He and his step mother had to live through the trauma of not having a father and a husband.
He forged a status of a bread winner by going on various dumpsites in the community to search for aluminum and copper debris to take to the blacksmith shop for sale.

It was a routine that plastered the life of a teenage Tubor.

He would also go into the nearby bushes to cut wood to sell to bakers at various bakeries in the community.A female Fante bakery owner once referred to Tubor as the strong boy who always brought wood.

But these situations were only a spring in the feet of Tubor. Instead of breaking him down, they spurred him on.

“I saw those moments as a period of preparation and an opportunity to face the challenges life brought” Tubor recalled.

Tubor would go on to complete high school at the St. Edward Catholic School in Logan Town and then later enrolled at the University of Liberia where he became a student leader and also earned a Master’s of Arts (MA) in International Relations.

“That transition from a dump site boy to a student leader at the country’s highest institution of learning was an indication that with determination you can beat the odds and become a progressive contributor to the society” Tubor pointed out.

Tubor is no stranger to the situations facing the people in the district.
He was born and bred in District 15.

“I have been through the struggles many of the kids here experienced and I know what should be done to help them turn a positive corner “Tubor intoned.

And Tubor is a family man who built a relationship that spans nearly two decades.

He and his wife, Agnes, have been in the trenches together. Despite attaining a status as a respected public figure, Tubor has never turned his back on Agnes who has been by his sides since his teenage days. The pair has three children. Their twin daughters and a son –Amos II.

“Agnes is my forever love and the lady of my youth” Tubor would often fondly say when referring to his wife.

He has been running an educational empowerment and mentoring program through his Better Future Foundation (BFF). The BFF has been providing educational and mentoring support to more than 100 young people across Bushrod Island.

Many prominent residents of Logan Town have expressed their support for Tubor.

Saymon Dweh and Bill Lavall, respected sons of Logan Town took to their Social Media pages to declare their support for the Tubor for Representative campaign.

The duo wrote “We consider Amos Nyanwleh Tubor jr. as the person best suited to steer the affairs of District 15 at the National Legislature.”

It is similar sentiments that have been echoed by market women and bike riders in the district.

“Tubor is a humble and honest character that will not just be a representative but a voice of the people and reasoning at the legislature” 65 year Sia Nyuma a seller at Logan Town central market recalled.

Juma Allen of the New Georgia Junction market at Caldwell put it quite succinctly when she said “Tubor is a manifestation of honesty and a determined leadership”

Tubor is no rookie to electioneering having participated in it at the University of Liberia and even in 2017 general elections when he was narrowly defeated by the late Adolph Lawrence.
“Tubor means well for this district.

He understands the issues and brings bodies of reasoning to the table” said, Robert Suah a money exchanger in Caldwell.
“Simply put Tubor is the best for the job” Joana Paye of Caldwell added.
