IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-9 November 2018: President George Manneh Weah has underscored the urgency of time in meeting the realization of the ‘Pro Poor Agenda’ for prosperity, especially in bettering the living standard of  Liberians. Chairing a Cabinet meeting in Kakata City, Margibi County, Thursday, the Liberian leader encouraged officials of his administration to double up in tackling various tasks and responsibilities outlined in the all the pillars of the ‘Pro Poor Agenda’, adding, “Time is not in our favor.” The Cabinet convened the special brainstorming session to take stock of pending development initiatives and challenges, for exploring new methods and strategies that would accelerate the actualization and hasten the delivery of critical governance services to the much-expectant Liberian populace. In his opening remarks, President Weah described previous cabinet retreats as successful but cautioned members of his administration to do their best because “time is not in our favor”. In a similar tone two weeks ago during a special cabinet meeting in Gbarnga, Bong County, President Weah admonished cabinet members to fast track efforts being made in the interest of the Liberian people, stating that “time is of essence.” President Weah asserted: “Our government was inaugurated just in January and now we are talking about one year. The Pro-Poor Agenda needs to be achieved and the only way to achieve this is to keep checking on the gains we have made and how we can overcome the challenges on the way.” The Liberian leader stressed the need for more cohesiveness and effective coordination amongst cabinet members, which remains indispensable in the expeditious achievement of the ‘Pro-Poor Agenda’ for Prosperity and Development (PAPD). The Liberian leader thanked all cabinet members for their resilience and courage in progressively deliver upon the government’s promises to the people of Liberian. The one-day working session was graced by cabinet members, heads of autonomous agencies, and heads of other sectors of government. The Cabinet session is also meant to develop an effective framework and common approach so that in the next two months eclipsing the Government’s one year in power would see accelerated actions from every ministry and agency in meeting their respective deliverable consistent with the PAPD.

By: T. Lula Jaureytqlulajaurey@gmail.com IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-9 November 2018: “Having gone through fourteen (14) years of devastating civil conflict  in Liberia leading to massive destruction of lives and properties, the necessity to understand the etymology  of the situation which confronted us few years ago can only be prevented when Liberians’ begin to put into prospective corrective measures in accordance with constitutional provision” Lofa County Lawmaker Clarence Massaquoi cautioned Liberians. The Lofa County electoral district number three lawmaker Hon. Clarence Massaquoi stated that  lack of adherence to the rule of law or constitutional provisions as one the  main reasons which led to the country’s long civil war,adding ‘ that the recent bill submitted by the president with respect to the elimination of tenure positions in all governmental Ministries and agencies across the length and birth of the country. Hon. Massaquoi  said the autonomous power given to the President is constitutional and therefore anything outside the constitution is a violation” he added. He maintained that, the Executive Breach of government does not have the power to create structure, rather, it is the Legislature therefore, the President should have earlier involve or inform the Legislature in the preparation of such bill before concluding the bill. He emphasized that it should have been done in such a way and manner that would increase public confidence among the governors and those they governed which signified a spirit of togetherness he stressed. Rep. Massaquoi further argues that lawmakers should avoid doing  things  that will denigrate them rather they must all work together collectively for the success of the nation. He cautions his fellow lawmakers that, “whatever the law does is to create those structures and it is our responsibility to protect it. “We have a lot of things to do and must focus on them, but not repealing for the propose bill after twelve years.” Rep. Massaquoi said. The Lofa County Lawmaker angrily described the act of repealing the tenure bill  as “Time wasting and premature.” Meanwhile,  Hon. Massaquoi hopes that, those in the House of Representatives would take some practical steps to assist the Executive Breach in the way that the country will have a good image and uprightness. Massaquoi stated that, “I don’t think the international community will be happy with us to hear tomorrow morning that the elections commission, PPCC, GAC, LACC and Social Security that managing pensioner’s money who are shouldering all the responsibility and we are removing their protections.” Furthermore, he indicated that, there are a lot of things that need to be currently looked at instead of taking something we considers less important. “As for me, it does not make sense to repeal tenure positions when there are lots to be discussed instead of taking something that is less important At the same time, he further stated that, “the economy is the most discouraging thing to talk about; the government must double up in order to deliver good on its promises to the Liberian people.”
