Bad Road Condition Causes Death of Patient In Nimba Co.

IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-28 September 2018: Reports reaching this paper says bad road condition between Ganta and Tappita has completely cut off, due to heavy down-pure of rains over the last weeks.

According to the report, the deplorable road condition in Nimba County, specifically the Gnata-Tappita corridors has made it impassable for the movement of goods and people leading to the death of a patient being referred to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, in Monrovia.

The report also indicated that another patient who was reportedly from Bong County, traveling to Tappita for advanced medical treatment, lost her life in township of Graie due the failure of the vehicle to get through the mud, an eyewitness tell the Independent Probe Newspaper.

Additional report from the country, indicates that authorities of the Jackson F. Doe, medical Hospital has temporarily placed a halt to the ongoing construction works on the nurses quarters and other developments, due to the difficulty in the movement of materials from Monrovia, or Ganta City.

Travelers further told this paper that currently the road towards the Yriah Town, before Tappita, has completely been cut off by flood and mud, making it very impossible for even motorcycle to cross.

According to the travelers, each person wanting to be taken off their vehicle across the muddy crossing point pays L$500 for the bike to be lifted which they continued to complain about.

Citizens of the county , especially Tappta city , afre calling on government to ensure the speedy repairs of roads in the county meanly the road leading to the major referral hospital in the county.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works has announced the final verification exercise of all properties along the road, beginning September 26 to October 16, 2018.

The Ministry calls on owners of affected properties along the Tappita to Ganta road corridor to be present at their property site during the verification exercise.

The twenty-one days’ exercise will commence from Tappita to Ganta. The following major activities will be carried out during the final verification exercise: setting up of Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) Committee and training of GRM Members; Disclosure of World Bank Group Policies to affected property owners (PAPs); and final disclosure of total compensation benefits to PAPs along the road corridor, the announcement has said.
