GAC Ends Audit Forum for GoL Procurement Specialist

IPNews-Monrovia, Liberia-29 June 2018: The General Auditing Commission has ended its first in the series Audit Forum in collaboration with its partners and stakeholders.

The exercise which focuses on enhancing government’s development agenda by promoting Accountability and Transparency in the use of Public Resources brought together procurement specialist from government institutions  .

The Country’s supreme Audit institution used the forum to launch its Annual Audit Plan for fiscal year 2018-2019.

105 Entities of Government, in the Commission’s Audit Plan were earmarked to be audited.

In its submission, the Commission, through its two deputies Foday G. Kaizolu and Winsley Nanka highlighted the processes, procedures and challenges surrounding the conduct of audit.

The occasion was also graced by other integrity institutions, to include the LACC, IAA, PPCC and FIU.

The heads of these institutions also presented papers on their roles and functions.

Liberia’s Finance Minister, Samuel D. Tweah, also spoke at the program with emphasis on strengthening governance in the public sector.

He called on line ministries and agencies to work in line with integrity institutions to ensure that the Government meets up with its integrity benchmark in meeting up with the Millennium Challenge Compact.

Minister Tweah also used the occasion to prevail on these institutions to coordinate their efforts in fighting corruption to what he calls an appreciated level.

Serving as keynote Speaker, was the Country Senior Partner of Price Water House Cooper, Taweh V.Veikai, who spoke on the topic ” The Relevance of a Supreme Audit Institution in enhancing National Development.

The Audit Plan was officially launched by Hon. Ben A. Fofana, immediate past Chairman of the Legislative Public Accounts Committee, who proxied on behalf of House Speaker Bhofal Chambers.

Other stakeholders and partners gracing the occasion includes representative of the EU, World Bank, ADB, IMF and the Swedish Ambassador. Below are photos from the program.
