Mr. President, We Respectfully Disagree For “ White Man Citizenship”

On Monday, January 29, 2018, President George M. Weah, addressed the joint session of Liberian 54th Legislature calling for among other things the repealing of laws that tend undermine  “Rapid development and coexistence”

President George M. Weah, highlighted Article 8, 9 & 10 of the Liberian Constitution which states that among other things “The Republic shall direct its policy towards ensuring for all citizens, without discrimination, opportunities for employment and livelihood under just and humane conditions, and towards promoting safety, health and welfare facilities in employment.”

Article 9: “The Republic shall encourage the promotion of bilateral and regional cooperation between and among Liberia and other nations, and the formation and maintenance of regional organizations aimed at the cultural, social, political and economic development of the peoples of Africa and other nations of the world.”

Article 10: “The Republic shall ensure the publication and dissemination of this Constitution throughout the Republic, and the teaching of its principles and provisions in all institutions of learning in Liberia.”

Mr. President, notwithstanding, these constitutional provisions, remains cardinal to the survival of the nation state.

Importantly, your proposal for granting “ White Man Citizenship” would not only undermine the constitution of Liberia but a show a blatant disregard to the ordinary people who voted you overwhelmingly to mitigate the gap of  two cardinal issues that tend to affect their belonging as a people. Namely, the Lack of economic standards & Powers and Lack of human capacity to compete with other foreign nationals doing business our country.

Mr. President, the lack of cohesive economic standards & power for an ordinary Liberian in terms of the availability of financial wealth  to compete with other wealthy foreign nationals will lead to unwarranted tension for the twisting- out of Liberians from their lands, homes and other properties due to lack of economic power.

Secondly, Mr. President, the human capacity of Liberians coming out of several years of civil wars and down crossing economic condition requires and necessities the need to give the proposition for granting “White Man citizenship”, a thought for consideration.

Mr. President, we do believe that there are compelling economic conditions of the ordinary Liberians that needs to be tackle by your administration rather than concentrating on granting “White Man citizenship”.

Importantly, Mr. President, we do believe that our founding fathers with all wisdom as exemplified in the structuring and maintenance of a functional state for nearly 170 years, considered the DANGER in allowing “White Man citizenship” and we are off the view that you will not undo what was established by our forefathers in a hurry.

Therefore, we call on you Mr. President, to reconsider you call to grant “White Man citizenship” , which does not only remain a contravention of the constitution of Liberia but has the propensity to render the already struggling citizenry worthless and expose them to crisis point as in the case of other countries on the African continent which resisted white minority  dominance of their economy and lands.
