Islamic Relatives Chases man into hiding over converting to Christianity

IPNews-Monrovia: It has been more than three years since a united family was thrown apart because of religious indifference.

Being the last of seven children of the late Sheikh Ibrahim Sesay, Alieu Sesay, was a devout Muslim who aided his late father in the preparation of daily prayers at the Samukai town central Mosque, Upper Cald Well, Montserrado County.

Following Alieu graduation from the A.M.E. University, on camp Johnson road, he later move to Brewerville City, Montserrado County, and joined in union in 2015, with beautiful miss Assatu Sesay, also a devout Muslim and later had a kid named Vee Sesay.

The union flourished until suddenly Assatu Sesay, was converted to Christianity in January of 2016.

A few months after Alieu Sesay also was converted to Christianity, which turned the tide of family unity into what is now ‘do or die’ crusade being launched by family members of Alieu Sesay.

Article 14 of the Liberian constitution states: “All persons shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion and no person shall be hindered in the enjoyment thereof except as may be required by law to protect public safety, order, health, or morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others;”

“ All persons who, in the practice of their religion, conduct themselves peaceably, not obstructing others and conforming to the standards set out herein, shall be entitled to the protection of the law. No religious denomination or sect shall have any exclusive privilege or preference over any other, but all shall be treated alike; and no religious tests shall be required for any civil or military office or for the exercise of any civil right. Consistent with the principle of separation of religion and state, the Republic shall establish no state religion.”

Also, the universal concept of freedom of religion states that Freedom of religion is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance. It also includes the freedom to change one’s religion or beliefs.

Freedom of religion is considered by many people and most of the nations to be a fundamental human right. Unlike Liberia, in a country with a state religion, freedom of religion is generally considered to mean that the government permits religious practices of other sects besides the state religion, and does not persecute believers in other faiths. Freedom of belief is different. It allows the right to believe what a person, group or religion wishes, but it does not necessarily allow the right to practice the religion or belief openly and outwardly in a public manner, a central facet of religious freedom.

As the Independent Probe dig deeper into this unacceptable act to murder Alieu and family because of change in religion by members of Alieu Sesay family, IPNews have established that a man hurt was initiated on May 23, 2016, allegedly in accordance with their traditional family values to have Alieu Sesay and family murder if Alieu Sesay did not denounced Christianity  .
