IPNews-Monrovia: Maryland County Senator, Gblebo Brown, has described the request by President George M. Weah to print new Liberia banknotes without accounting for the missing 16 billion and 25 Million mop-up funds as ‘incomprehensible’.
Senator Brown stated that action is a wrong notion for Liberia to print additional banknotes just to pay civil servants as stated by some executives of the CDC.
Senator Brown speaking to legislative reporters Monday on Capitol Hill said the essence of printing new banknotes in any country should not only be to pay civil servant as is in the case of Liberia.
According to the Maryland County senator, in order for him to affix his signature to any document in support of the printing of new banknotes, other conditions must be met.
The Maryland senator said for new banknotes to be printed, the legislature must signed a resolution instructing the Central Bank to do, something he said the legislature has not done.
He noted that before Liberia prints new money, recommendations by both kroll and the PIT which said the printing of the 15 billion was marked by fraud should be considered and settled.
Senator Brown wounds why Liberia will want to print money just to pay civil servant, adding that government should be able to pay its people from its own domestic revenue generation.
