IPNews-Monrovia-Liberia-20 2018: The ex-president of the Barshall University College, Dr. Israel C. Obiasogu and one Humphrey Jacobs were arrested by officers of the Liberia National Police in the Redlight district, Paynesville early Sunday morning, November 18, 2018 at their respective residences and are currently behind bars awaiting court trial based on several allegations of mismanagement and corruption against them by the Board of the University.
According to police record, Dr. Obiasogu and Mr. Jacobs arrest was based on complaint filed by the Board of Trustee of the University both men were leveled against multiple charges including criminal facilitation payroll padding and mismanagement of the University funds.
On the 25th of May, 2018, the now dismissed President of the University was inducted into office by the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Ceebee Barshall given him the responsibility to manage the affairs of the institution by strengthening its capacities with the mandate of making the University one of the best in the Country, plus a cash of US$50,000.00 and a seven ton pickup worth over US$19,000.00, but to the surprise of the Board, this proved on the contrary.
Explaining further, the University said during the stay of Mr. Obiasogu as President he was also given twenty five computers and dozens of stationaries, and was told to report to the Board on a regular basis, but also refused to abide by all instructions given him, and was also alleged that he took the institution’s sensitive documents to the public with the knowledge of the Board.
The Board in its communication to the dismissed President said, dated November 8, 2018, the Barshall University College Board said, “Your failure to respond to our communications and the Board Inquiry Team on the University Financial transactions and reports; your failure to clarify credentials and stimulate a proper administrative style that motivates faculty and stimulate vision and growth,” portion of the Board’s communication said.
The Board communication to Dr. Obiasogu further gave reason for his dismissal said, “Your ineptitude to serve as President and your continuous absence from campus as President of the university but choose to be hunting for classroom jobs in other schools, expenditure and usage of students deposits, and your failure to report to the Board and faculty on its daily activities,” the communication noted.
Meanwhile, the Board of Trustee has with immediate effect has appointed an interim management team headed by Dr. W. Gonsahn Matadi to spearhead the college pending its decision to appoint a new President, while at the same time requesting the dismissed President to turn over all school assets, documents and cash in his possession to the management team of the College.
The Board concluding, warned the dismissed President to desist from spreading falsehood about the University or face the full weight of the law.
In a related development, legal team of the University is making all preparations to issue a lawsuit against the dismissed President for making slanderous and libelous statements in the media against the founder of the University, Mr. CeeBee Barshall, and to also recover all financial misapplications of the University by Dr. Obiasogu.
