ULAA calls for transparent elections; Wants Liberians accept the results

IPNEWS: The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has called on the National Elections Commission to conduct the runoff election in a free, fair and transparent manner and respect the will of the people of Liberia.

The third Interim President of the ULAA, Anthony F. Kpayea, also urged Liberians to accept the results of elections announced by the NEC after conducting a constitutional election.

He said a peaceful election in Liberia is a signal to the rest of the world that the country is democratically mature and stable.

“Once the right thing is done by the NEC, Liberians will have no reason raising doubts in the result of the elections, remember that the world is watching us as we carrying out our electoral process,”

As the ULAA is also preparing for democratic elections the Acting President of the Union assured his members of the Liberian community of a free and fair election.

The Board of the Union is the legislative body of the Union, and it’s comprise of two elected representatives from each Member Organization.

The board has however mandated the interim President to conduct the election that will usher in a legitimate leadership.

According to the ULAA’s Interim President, he and his team are working on a mandate from the Union’s Board of Directors.

He said their key objective is to conduct a free and fair election for that body.

“The board and members have trusted us to lead the process and we are prepared to conduct the elections in a free and transparent way that all of our members will feel the impact of their votes cast, that’s why we are calling on the NEC in our country to conduct the runoff election with care and respect the constitution as we are doing Here in the United States,”

ULAA is a Chapter-based organization comprising of Liberian residing in the United States of America. It consists of eighteen (18) chapters.

The jurisdiction of the Union encompasses the United States of America and North and South America and is divided into four geographic regions: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western.

The organization also advocates for Liberians in America and in some cases help secure lawyer for Liberians that need a legal help in court.

He however disclosed that some of the union’s old chapters have expressed interest of returning  to the union to participate in the pending election in the next three months.

Accordingly, he said those returning will not participate in the voting process because they were not part of the previous number of chapters which agreed for the way forward.

It can be recalled that on September 16, 2023 at the union’s national convention in Philadelphia tension occurred among the two presidential candidates and supporters, which led to the Board of Directors of ULAA cancellation of the election.

The two presidential candidates are Shiwoh Kamara, incumbent President, and Mohammad Keita, official of ULAA.
