IPNews-Monrovia,Liberia-11 February 2018:The Liberian Senate has confirmed 35 presidential nominees that through its relevant committees over the last three weeks.
According to Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Senator Albert Chie, consistent with law respective statutory committees were still conducting aggressive cross examination of the nominees.
The Pro-Tempore also disclosed that the leadership of the Liberian Senate has warned nominees from taking offices before their confirmation certificate are given.
Adddtionally, Pro-Tempore Chie warned that those who have not been confirmed not to conduct any business of government either in their offices or outside their offices-adding confirmation hearings been held rapidly due to the urgency to have the government formed but at the same time, there is a need to vet the nominees properly,” Pro-Tempore Chie cautioned.
Senator Chie stated further that of the 83 nominees, there is only one withdrawal amidst several criticisms on issues of ethical transgression reported by the media
Senator Chie said the Senate is currently debating provisions of the Liberian Constitution relating to President Weah’s recent call for dual citizenship and land ownership for people of non negro descent.
