Chinese Medical Team Provide Free Medical Services to workers at Ministerial Complex

IPNews-Monrovia, Liberia-16 May 2018: Several workers at the China-aided ministerial complex project in Monrovia, on Saturday, May 12, 2018, received free medical services from Chinese medical team headed by Dr. Yan and other Chinese staff.

The 11th China Medical Team to Liberia, currently based at the JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, carried out the medical exercises, at the invitation of Jiangsu Provincial Construction (JPC), implementing company at ongoing works at the ministerial complex.

Both workers, Liberians and Chinese technicians, underwent various examinations and received treatments for different complications.

Some of the focal areas during the medical exercises were blood pressure, ophthalmology or eye test, surgery, general medicine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, among others.

The nine-member China Medical Team, led by r. Yan Junliang, said anyone found with major problems will be advised or told to visit the hospital. Yan also said that China Medical Team would do its best to protect the health of Liberians and ensure everyone have a healthy body.

Interestingly, the Liberian counterparts had not done the medical examination and were very happy to experience such a kind of medical examination. They also experienced Chinese acupuncture and praised the magical effect of acupuncture.

The event was full of affections and emotion. Local workers expressed thanks in Chinese ‘xiexie’. Everyone felt the loving care from the China Medical Team to Liberia and Chinese companies. They also appreciated the Chinese people’s selfless help to Liberians.

Two of the workers, George Karpeh and Kelvin Nimely, thanked their management for prioritizing their health needs.

For Karpeh, he had doubted the Chinese acupuncture, but was impressed and felt relieved after going through the process. “We do hard works; but after the acupuncture and other treatment, I am feeling fine now. So, I just want to thank the company for bringing the medical team here to treat us,” he intoned.

The workers also appealed to management to continue giving them such opportunities to enable them remain fit for the project.

JPC, with Mr. Gao Yuanming as its Manager, also presented back bags, soap and bottles of anti-mosquito ointment to beneficiaries of Saturday’s medical services, expressing the purpose of China’s dedication to Liberia, under the theme: “Practice loving Kindness of the Doctors, Sino-Liberia United as One Family”.

A staff of JPC, Mr. Brian Xu, said Saturday’s event marked the second of such an exercise. The China Medical Team, he said, carried out similar exercise on the workers in 2017.

According to Brian, the company has in its employ 180 Liberians. Also, there 120 Chinese technicians, who he said are working along with and teaching local workers with construction skills.

“When we finish with our project and other activities, we will leave; so, we are also training the locals as a way of strengthening China-Liberia friendship,” Brian maintained.

He said the Technical Team of China Aided Project of Ministerial Complex in Liberia has always attached great importance to the project management and local social responsibility. “We, Technical Team of China Aided Project of Ministerial Complex in Liberia, took full consideration of the needs of local workers for this free treatment and helped them solve these practical difficulties and issues and let ordinary staff benefit from China Aid,” he added.

The free treatment activity did not only solve the practical issues for local workers, but also embodied the caring of an enterprise and big power’s responsibility.

At the same time, the Technical Team of China Aided Project of Ministerial Complex established communication mechanism with the Eleventh China Medical Team to Liberia to make sure that Chinese staffs are in good condition while working in Liberia.

Some staff from the Chinese Embassy also graced the occasion and spoke of the importance of strengthened friendship between the two countries.

Started on October 25, 2016, the China-aided project of ministerial complex is expected to be completed in mid-2019.

About the China Aided Project of Ministerial Complex

The total construction area of China Aided Project of Ministerial Complex in Liberia is around 24,000 square meters and the total investment is approximately US$53 million.

The complex contains offices, meeting rooms, lecture hall, multifunctional conference hall, archive room (s), administration rooms and dining room(s) which are designed for the maximum accommodation of 1,300 persons. Such auxiliary facilities include pump room, substation and distribution room and generator room equipped with necessary office equipment and furniture.

It will complex will host five ministries and agencies. They are: Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as a splendid conference hall.
