IPNews-Monrovia , Liberia -27 March 2018:Twenty-nine officers of the United Nations Police serving in Liberia (UNPOL) have been honored by the leadership of the Liberia National Police for the dedicated services rendered the LNP and the people of Liberia, as well as successfully aiding the security sector of the country.

Police Inspector General, Col. Patrick Toe Sudue in an appreciation ceremony on Monday, March 26, 2018 held at the police headquarters said he is thankful for the unwavering support of all the courteous men and women of UNPOL for their years of dedication.

“Let me thank and acknowledge the unflinching supports of all the gallant men and women of UNPOL for their years of dedicated services to the LNP as well as successfully aiding the security sector as a whole,” Col. Sudue said.

According to him, in an effort to sustain peace and security in Liberia, the United Nations established the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) through its Resolution 1509 (2003) with a mandate, to support the reform of the security sector in Liberia, specifically the police.

He noted that UNMIL through its UNPOL component has made immense contributions to the reform and restructuring of the LNP in the following ways: recruitment, training and human resource capacity building of officers; development of legal instruments such as policies and other administrative documents.

Additionally, he said UNPOL helped in infrastructure development such as building and refurbishment of police stations, depots and barracks; the provision of operational equipment such as vehicles, motorbikes, office equipment, uniforms, accessories and other specialized clothing.

Meanwhile, UNPOL officers that were honored expressed happiness and were appreciative to the Liberia National Police for the honoring ceremony.
