Lawmaker Rallies Colleagues Over Perceived Division

IPNews-Monrovia , Liberia -27 March 2018:Some lawmakers of the Opposition have expressed dissatisfaction over the way committees have been distributed among members of the 54th National legislature of the lower house.

The dissatisfaction by some of the law makers is slowing down the workings of the plenary of the House of Representatives, says a report.

It is against this back drop that the chairman on Political Reconciliation and Peace committee Dorwon Giekia at the lower house has embarked on a reconciliation process amongst members of the house.

“Liberians need to reconcile”, Nimba County district # 6 Representative Dorwon Giekia told a political reconciliation and peace gathering of members of the National legislature held at the capitol building in Monrovia, adding that the development of Liberia will come to actuality if “we will only be positive in ensuring full and true reconciliation.”

The chairman decision was in respond to his observation that members of that august body are not working together as it should be due to their political difference.

According to him the program is intended to cover the fifteen political sub-divisions of the country but added that he firstly started with Montserrado because it’s the seats of all lawmakers.

Making a special remark at the program was Speaker Bhofal Chamber who said members of the 54 legislature needs to be more conscience as it relates to the issue under discussion.

For reconciliation to be achieved, he noted the actors and their weakness should be identifiable in order to realize all of their forth, adding that the solution is with the legislators.

“When we work together with constructive loyalty many things can happen. This house is a marrow” he said.

The program brought together many lawmakers, many of which spoke pledge their willingness and commitment in working with the committee program which aim is to reconcile members of the house.

Meanwhile the committee is expected to have a special reconciliation forum in Lofa County, Nimba County, and Bong County amongst other where electoral dispute took place.
