Paynesville City & Detroit, To establish Sister-City relationship -Mayor Belcher-Taylor Lauds Mike Duggan

IPNews-Monrovia, Liberia-25 March 2018: The City of Paynesville will formally sign a sister-city relationship with the city of Detroit, USA., in the areas of economic cooperation, sanitation and  technology.    

According to a dispatch from Detroit, USA, Paynesville City Mayor, Honorable Pam Belcher-Taylor, and  Detroit City Mayor Mike Duggan agreed in principle to jointly work in expending the city of Paynesville economic capacity, the development of new  infrastructure technology application,  sanitation disposal Technics

During discussion held, both Mayor Belcher-Taylor and Duggan, discussed on the importance of fast-tracking the ideal of a sister City relationship between the two cities.

The City of Detroit, Michigan has a record of emerging from a protreptic period of economic challenges and bankruptcy to a more exemplary leader under the leadership Mayor Mike Duggan.

Detroit City under Mayor Mike Duggan has exemplified how cities with intractable challenges can survive without national government direct involvement.

While in Detroit, Mayor Belcher-Taylor met with Alexis Wiley, Mayor Mike Duggan’s Chief of Staff and Thomas Lewand, Group Executive for Jobs and Economic Growth.

During the sideline meetings, Mayor Belcher-Taylor discussed wide range of other issues seeking to benefit the City of Paynesville along with Ms. Wiley.

In furtherance of Mayor Belcher-Taylors vision to bring sustainable development to the people of paynesville City, Mayor Belcher-Taylor  met with African American Businessmen and investors, led by Rev. Dr. Jim Holley and Professor James Mays.

Mayor Belcher-Taylor layout important roles African American Investors can play in Liberia’s development, especially as Mayor of the City of Paynesville.

On behalf of Detroit African American Business Community, Professor Mays promised to lead a delegation to the city of Paynesville, Liberia in April 2018, to explore investment opportunities in Liberia and assess the challenges faced by the City of Paynesville.

He also said that there is a need for Detroit to host an economic conference on Liberia to be called “Liberia is Open for Business”.

The Detroit Conference will seek to demonstrate to American Investors that Liberia is ready for business and showcase the government’s pro-poor platform for economic growth.

The Detroit Conference will also bring together a cross section of Liberians in the Diaspora, in a Town Hall setting, to discuss how they can fully participate in the renewal of Liberia.

Mayor Belcher-Taylor as part of her concluding leg of visit to Detroit, met with the leadership of Michigan’s largest community college, Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD).

Additionally, Mayor Belcher-Taylor, while visiting with Chancellor, Dr. Curtis Ivery of WCCCD, expressed her overwhelming desire to have WCCCD assist the City of Paynesville in establishing the First Junior College in Paynesville, Liberia.

Dr. Ivery promised to visit the City of Paynesville before the end of this year to see the possibility of establishing a Junior College in the West African State .

While in the United States, Mayor Belcher-Taylor also visited Leesburg, Virginia and met with Mayor Kelly Burk, with a special message of economic development including trade and investment between the two cities.
