House to Amend Patriot and Cultural Observance Law

IPNEWS: Rep. Moima Briggs Mensah has proposed a new initiative in Liberia’s legislature to introduce flags for electoral districts nationwide.

The proposed Act seeks to amend the Patriot and Cultural Observance Law to include provisions for the creation of unique flags to represent each electoral district.

The proposed amendment, entitled “AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 2, Sub Section 32 OF THE PATRIOTIC AND CULTURAL OBSERVANCE LAW-TITLE 25-LIBERIA CODE OF LAW REVISED TO PROVIDE FOR SUB Section 32.6 ELECTORAL DISTRICT FLAG,” aims to establish district flags as tangible symbols of identity and community participation throughout Liberia.

The initiative highlights the importance of district flags in promoting unity, peace, and the preservation of historical and cultural values.

Rep. Mensah emphasized the significance of this proposal in strengthening civic pride and enhancing community engagement in the electoral process.

The initiative has garnered support from fellow legislators who view it as a positive step towards promoting national unity and celebrating cultural diversity.

If enacted, the Act would task the Ministry of Internal Affairs with collaborating with local communities to design and implement the district flags, fostering a sense of belonging

and shared heritage among residents.
