LIBERIA: Massive Flooding Expect-Disaster Management Agency Warns

IPNEWS: The National Disaster Management Agency of Liberia has disclosed that over ten thousand persons are expected to fall prey to flood, windstorm and coastal erosion with 60% getting affected in coastal counties.

The entity’s latest release is backed by a report issued by World Bank Group Climate Risk Profile-2024 for Liberia.

Addressing the Ministry of Information regular press briefing Thursday in Monrovia, NDMA Executive Director, Ansu Dulleh said considering the latest update, the entity is expected to dispatch awareness teams across the country to provide education to citizens on the prevention against such outbreak.

He also reported that on March 31, 2024, about 198 homes were damaged in Gbapolu, Bong and Nimba Counties respectively.

According to him, a team that visited the counties observed that several homes were entirely or partially destroyed as a result of heavy windstorms.

Dulleh indicated that the situation left many especially women and children homeless, stressing that the situation affected approximately 1,863 people with two persons sustaining serious injuries in the counties.
