Minister of Health Meets with Chinese Ambassador to Strengthen Bilateral Health Partnership

IPNEWS: In an effort to address key issues in the health sector, Liberia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, convened a courtesy meeting with the Chinese Ambassador at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town, near Monrovia.

Dr. Kpoto expressed heartfelt appreciation for China’s partnership and the continuous bilateral relationship between the two countries.

“We are deeply grateful to the Chinese Ambassador and the people of China for their enduring partnership and invaluable contributions to Liberia’s healthcare sector,” Dr. Kpoto expressed.

Highlighting the crucial role of medical supplies, Dr. Kpoto emphasized the urgent need for support in ensuring the availability of essential medicines across all public health facilities. “Access to adequate medical supplies is vital for delivering quality healthcare to our citizens. As one of our long-standing partners, we look forward to the government and people of China for their support,” she stressed.

Moreover, Dr. Kpoto urged China Union, operating in the Bong Mines Concession area, to fulfill its corporate responsibility by taking charge of the Bong Mines Hospital, in accordance with the Mineral Development Agreement.

Addressing the need for skilled healthcare professionals, the Minister appealed for annual scholarships from China to train personnel in specialized fields of Medicine and Nursing. Support for the establishment of the Liberia Postgraduate Nursing College in partnership with China to cater to the demand for specialized nurses was also discussed.

In terms of infrastructure, Dr. Kpoto sought assistance for the maintenance and repair of the Ministry’s office premises, including elevator repairs. “Infrastructure support is essential for ensuring efficient healthcare delivery,” she noted.

Echoing Dr. Kpoto’s sentiments, the Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu, reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Liberia in the healthcare sector. “China values its partnership with Liberia and remains committed to supporting its healthcare endeavors,” the Ambassador stated.

Both parties underscored their dedication to fortifying the existing partnership for the mutual benefit of the people of Liberia and China, signaling optimism for the positive outcomes of their discussions.
