Jeety Shares Thanksgiving Day with Over 1450 Inmates at Monrovia Central Prison

IPNEWS – The Indian businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, took some of his time off on Wednesday, Thanksgiving Day in Liberia, on November 2nd, to share the Thanksgiving Day national holiday with the inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison.

This wasn’t Mr. Sachdeva, who is more famously known as “Jeety” in Liberia, first time visiting the prison compound to share his generosities with inmates and the entire compound. This tradition of giving back to the needy has now lasted for over six years.

On Thanksgiving Day, Jeety having compassion ensures that those behind bars did not miss out on the spirit of the holiday season. He and his team took with them huge tubs of rice, buckets of split pea bean soup, sacs of soft drink (soda) to feed the 1,469 inmates, who are incarcerated at the Central Prison. Along with the things, he also presented 600 eating bowl (plates) to the prison authority.

Those inmates are being kept at this maximum prison, which was designed to accommodate a maximum of 400 persons, but currently carries that number of prisoners, most of whom are pretrial detainees.

Jeety, known for his selfless contributions to society, involvement in prison outreach began over six years ago when he started feeding hundreds of Liberians at his Vai Town Jeety Conglomerate headquarters.

Learning about the challenges faced by the inmates, Jeety started distributing food at the prison compound and feeding some disadvantaged youths (zogoes) and subsequently took his goodwill outside Monrovia.

Since then, the Indian businessman has made it his mission to ensure that no inmate feels forgotten or excluded during holidays, realizing that many incarcerated individuals are separated from their families due to crimes committed.

Like this year Thanksgiving, Jeety every holiday, leads his team to provide a memorable experience for prisoners, working tirelessly to prepare and pack the meals, ensuring that the recipients receive a delicious and heartfelt package to brighten their day.

Additionally, Jeety’s commitment to the welfare of the inmates extended beyond the festivities, as he has on numerous occasions identified with the inmates through the provision of eating plates or bows, providing pipe-borne water and other essential materials.

At the prison compound on Thursday when he was presenting the items to the authority, Jeety emphasized the importance of thanksgiving. He expressed how grateful he and his team are to God. He used the occasion and called on other business people to also emulate the good works that he is doing for the inmates.

Responding, the Deputy Prison Superintendent for Operations, Ms. Janet Siryee Mulbah, thanked Jeety for his tireless commitment in buttressing government’s effort to ensure that inmates are fed regularly every major holiday. She praised the Indian businessman for now being a partner with the Monrovia Central Prison.

She also thanked Jeety for his numerous kind gestures ranging from always providing hot, cooked meal for the inmates and others, installation of running water, etc.
