IPNEWS: For their invaluable services and immeasurable contributions towards human resource development in the technical and vocational sector, especially at the Gateway Vocational Training Center (GVTC), the institution has in return honoured those personalities and institutions.
GVTC is a newly established vocational training centre, led by three private sector associations, the Association of Liberian Construction Contractors (ALCC), the Engineering Society of Liberia (ESoL) and the Liberian Institute of Architects (LIA) as well as a representative from Firestone and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The establishment of the GVTC is being supported with funding from the European Union and the German Government under the “TVET by the Private Sector” project under the “EU Support to Demand-Driven Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Young People in Liberia”. The “TVET by the Private Sector” project is implemented by GIZ under its Capacity Development for the Transport Sector” (CDTS) project with technical support and advisory services offered by Integration Management Consultant as a sub-contractor y GIZ.
Accordingly, a ceremony marking the honouring of the personalities including the German Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Dr. Jakob Haselhuber and others as well as business institutions and companies was held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the second open house day of the GVTC at its interim training facility in Sinkor, Monrovia.
The second open house of GVTC was attended by several local and foreign dignitaries including officials from the EU Delegation, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports and Public Works as well as local leaders, the private sector inclusive of companies from the construction sector.
Speaking at the occasion, Abraham Wowah, Acting Center Manager of GVTC, lauded the individuals for their immense contributions to the successful running of the institution.
He said GVTC is interested in partnership and as such, any individual or group, company or business institution are encouraged to follow suit in the good example of the others by coming on board to support the good work of the school.
“The involvement of the private sector through the ownership of t the GVTC and the offered comprehensive job attachment program ensures that the training offered at the GVTC meets the actual needs of the construction sector,” he asserted.
He expressed great delight over the pace of work being done at the future home of GVTC in Bensonville, Montserrado County.
Wowah explained that the facility, which comprises nine buildings (including workshops, classrooms, an administration building, a dining hall, dormitories and staff accommodation), will be completed by February 2024.
When completed, the GVTC Acting Center Manager disclosed, will provide training for up to 170 trainees.
