SEE SOME OF WHOM ARE OUR LAWAMKERS

It is absolutely sickening to note that our votes at the ballot box as Liberians are not cast in favor of the rule of law, progress, and prosperity in our beloved Nation, Liberia, but are cast in favor of impunity and power-thirsty politicians, many of them ill-intentioned and lack integrity.

A classic example is the composition of our Legislature, where some of those who rained havoc on this country and its people are seated as lawmakers.

They committed economic and war crimes, but yet we went to the ballot box and voted them to the first branch of our government, the Legislature.

Can you imagine that? Some of these individuals should by now be facing a war and economic crimes court and not sitting on Capitol Hill with impunity.

We need not mention names here because some of these individuals that we are alluding to here are household names due to their notoriety, but guess what?

As we are about to go to the polls on October 10, 2023, some of these individuals are seeking re-election, while others, including those, who were recently sanctioned by the US Treasury Department for rampant corruption and the betrayal of public trust, are doing all they can to also be elected to the Legislature.

Is this not sickening, fellow Liberians? Yes, it does. Just look in both Houses of our Legislature and see some of whom who are our lawmakers or legislators.

Has our Legislature turned into a safe haven for individuals, who committed war and economic crimes?

We are concerned because it does not only send the wrong signals to our international partners and donors, but also deters potential investors, who may want to come and invest here to create jobs to help lift many unemployed Liberians from abject poverty.

No one would want to invest in a country that condones the culture of impunity and pays lip service to the rule of law.

Please do not misconstrue us here. This is not meant to cast aspersion on the entire membership of the first branch of government, but meant to send a caveat to our fellow Liberians that if we continue to make the wrong decisions at the ballot box as we approach the October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, we will continue to get the wrong results.

We continue to make the same mistakes over and over again but expect different results. It does not work that way, fellow Liberians.

As we go to the ballot box on October 10, let us not retain in the Legislature individuals, who have committed war and economic crimes and reject others of their kind that are seeking election to the honorable body.
