Information Ministry Conducts ‘Capacity Building’ for Journalists

Over 50 local journalists covering the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) have ended a day-long capacity building training in Monrovia.

The training was organized by a Liberian Communication Expert Mr. Hassan Kiawo in collaboration with the Public Affairs Department at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism (MICAT).

The day long training was graced by Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie and his Deputy for Press and Public Affairs, Jarlawah A.Tonpo.

Remaking at the opening of the training session, Minister Rennie challenged Journalists accredited at MICAT to take advantage of training opportunities whenever they are available

According to Minister Rennie, capacity building helps the work that journalists do, as such they must be willing to learn at all times.

He also described learning as a major tool to enhance the reading and writing skills of media practitioners.

For his part, the MICAT Reporters Network Chairman Morris Welh Tee said the network will endeavour to engage other partners to provide more training for the organization members.

Wleh Tee further stated that journalists have a pivotal role to play in society as such building their capacities cannot be over emphasis.
